2002 Ford Taurus SE. Heater motor and fan work fine on all speed settings but the air coming from the vents is moderately warm at best and not hot when temp selection is to hot. When I move the temp setting to cold all the air is cold. Mechanic replaced thermostat this week but air is lukewarm at best. Took back to him today and his on-line research says it is a blend-door problem. Outside temps here this past week were below zero, car sits outside and if I warm up before going to work it would take more than an hour to defrost the windows. Both hoses to the heater core are warm. HELP

Check the heater valve is fully open when in the hot position , this valve or tap often get stuck half open. if all is ok there flush the heater radiator as they can silt up.

SOURCE: Heater only blows hot (well, warm) on full speed of fan

Replace the temp control on this car, it should be electrical control not cables.

SOURCE: Problem:

Problem is most likely in the electronic blend door motor or the door itself has broken.
To access the electronic temperature blend door actuator remove cassette storage box or center shelf unit, if equipped.
Remove instrument panel ash receptacle by depressing service lever. Disconnect electrical harness connector from A/C electronic door actuator motor.
Remove three retaining screws.
Carefully pull A/C electronic door actuator motor outward and off A/C evaporator housing assembly.Make sure the door it self is not cracked where the actuator hooks to it and that it will move.
Here ia a link to a pick of what you are looking at.

SOURCE: '02 Escape, heater cold when outside air below freezing

This could be a few different problems. I would recommend taking it in and having the antifreeze checked to see if it is of a sufficient mix to keep it from freezing. Sometimes the antifreeze will be to thin to keep it from freezing and it will start to freeze in the heater core. If this is the case, the vehicle may not run long enough to thaw out the antifreeze in the heater core to generate heat. Another possibility is that the thermostat is stuck in an open or partially open position not allowing the engine to reach a high enough temperature to generate heat through the heater core. The last possibility is that there is a blockage in the heater core not allowing the hot antifreeze to pass through the heater core thereby reducing the amount of heat drawn off of the heater core. These are but a few of the more simple problems but any of them should be treated by a licensed mechanic.

You just might have an air lock. Try bleeding the system from the heater hose at the firewall. Losen one hose a little, and at operating temp. open slightly to let air out. You will lose some coolant, but just refill the rad. Now, both hoses should get hot.

I have a 06 2500 dodge sprinter and the fan control speed wheel isnt working. Settings 1-4 will not work. I can feel hot or cold air coming out of the vents while I'm driving but cannot adjust it.

I have changed the resistor 2 times for the same problem. Its under the hood behind the fan motor insulation.
Mine burned because of fan motor frozen & stuck in the winter. Solution is to let the engine warm up before turning the fan on.

If both heater hoses are getting hot then you know the coolant has to be flowing and the core should be hot.
What you will have to do is locate the blend air door servo.
The blend air door is a door (or flap) between the heater core and the A/C evaporator (even without a/c there is still a door to control the cabin temp)
Early vehicles with the slider controls used a cable but the later vehicles with a rotary knob or digital buttons use a servo to rotate the door mechanism.
The servos can go bad and the switches as well.
But from the sounds of it, your door is not moving to allow the heat through the vents.

Our 98 ford taurus heater and a/cdoes not work we can hear the vacume ingage but nothing works

these are two diff systems working of the same control. Heater first, do you hear the fan running with the heater on all speeds, does any air come out of vents? Is it hot air? If you have air flow can you adjust it to defrost or floor?

2000 ford taurs a/c dont work it blows cold when i power up the compressor.its running 45 lbs on my gage on the low side.

Hi...
Perform the following basic Checks and Information
1. Check Drive Belts,If belt is intact proceed to the next step.
2. Check for Compressor Clutch Engagement - Turn the air conditioner to the "on" position and set controls to the coldest setting. Start the engine and allow to idle. Then open the hood and inspect the clutch at the front of the compressor, is it turning? "Engaged" if so, the system has enough refrigerant to activate. If the system is low on refrigerant it will not work properly. In this case an air conditioner recharge kit is needed to recharge the system. If the compressor clutch is not turning proceed to next step.
3. Inspect for Refrigerant Leaks
4. Check under dash panel and under hood power distribution center
5. Check Temperature Control Vents - The vents inside your car are controlled by a cable, electrical servo or vacuum servo. If the vent door is not functioning properly it will cause warm air from the heater to exit the vents. To check this start the car and allow the engine idle, next turn the blower motor speed on low, switch the temperature control from warm to cold while your ear is close to the vents. You should hear the door move inside the heater box as it swings from open to close. If not, inspect for a vacuum leak or a shorted motor in the servo, repair the leak or replace the servo motor.
Thanks
Smith

HEATER DOES NOT STAY HOT IT STARTS THEN IT GOES COLD

Check the heater core for a clog or the heater control valve. The easiest was to check these is allow heater to run for a few minutes and check the two hoses coming from under the hood against the fire wall. They should both be hot. If they are not, you have one of the above problems. Start with the heater control valve and replace it. It is much cheaper than than a heater core. Next, you will need to pull the lines from the firewall and see is rust starts coming out of the lines, if so, you may be able to flush the system and clear the blockage. After that, if it does not work, it will require replacing the heater core, which is no easy or cheap feat.
