Microphone Not Working!

If this is a microphone that connects to the 3.5 mm microphone jack, check that your microphone is connected to the Mic port (pink on the rear of a desktop). Make sure that the plug is fully seated. If you are using a front microphone jack on a desktop, try using the rear port (or vice versa). Next, if you have Windows, check that the audio input is set to Microphone, instead of Line In. (For Windows 7, this would be Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices (under Sound) and the recording tab.) Microphone should be your default device.

Next try uninstalling the audio driver and letting Windows reinstall the driver. Use the Device Manager (under Devices and Printers in the Hardware and Sound Control Panel). Expand the section labeled Sound, video and game controllers. Then right click on the Audio driver. Click on Uninstall then reboot the computer after the driver is removed. The correct driver should be reinstalled. (I believe that you do not have a separate driver for the microphone under Windows but you should make certain of that.) Check for driver updates as well. The Windows Update may list these as Optional updates.

If you have a USB microphone, try a different port. Also check for drivers from the manufacturer.

If you have an Apple or Unix OS, check for similar issues with the connection or drivers.

I hope this helps.

(who had a similar problem with Audacity recording on the line in port last month; I fixed the problem by uninstalling the audio driver and then reinstalling it. Then changing the Recording Source to Line In finished the fix. The driver got changed by a computer tune-up utility (registry cleaner).)

Hai,, my laptop gives no sound{toshiba tecra s1). it's drivers are ok. cause it shows in control pannel. and it shows playing sound. but gives no sound in external as well as microphone...plz help...

Hi,

Even if you see the sound driver in control panel, it doesn't mean that it is already okay. You may still need to reinstall or update it for it to properly work. Here are the things that you need to check though.

- Volume - make sure that it is not muted. Note that for some models, there is a function key on the keyboard that you press to mute and unmute the sound.
- Reinstall or update the sound driver. This usually resolves issues regarding sounds.

Hope this helps.

The microphone of my laptap is not functioning

Go into the control panel and look for sound devices. Go to the recording device tab and make sure you see the microphone in this list, usually I find that the settings are wrong in this section, like sound is switched down or something like that, if every thing here is set properly, then go to device manager, try uninstalling the driver then search for new devices and reinstall this may work

Microphone

Which motherboard (manufacturer? model-number?) do you have?
Which sound-card (integrated onto motherboard? separate PCI card?) do you have?
Are you plugging the microphone into the "pink" socket on your sound-card?
