Have you tried DVD recorders? You can use rewritable DVD 9DVD RW) so you can erase them and reuse them if you handle them carefully. You can also use standard DVD R disks which are cheaper.

Another alternative would be external hard drive media recorder cases. Here is a link to some really fair priced units that will do exactly what you are looking for without having to buy any disks. They are like stand alone DVR's:

Just cut and paste the above link into your address bar on your internet browser. These units are only 159.00$ each.

If you found this info helpful please rate it fixya for my time researching this for you.

Thank You,
George

Hi, George here. I was just wondering if you had a chance to check out these options for recording the home school study sessions. I commend you on the dedication it takes to home school your children. These days it is the only way to protect them from exposure to the unacceptable situations that are too many too list. Even the high dollar private school option does not compare to the personal attention that you provide. Anyway, If you need any more help with this or any other technical problem feel free to contact me anytime and I will assist you for free. You can reach me directly at geokohler@gmail.com. Hope to here from you soon.

We are trying to hook up a samsung flat screen TV, a sony home theater system, direct tv box, and a panasonic DVD to the dynex component video converter box. Which cable goes where

We can't make assumptions. Did you set it up in accordance with the manuals?

Without specific details...

In general, ins go to outs; compatible connectors need no modification.

If you have an HDTV and HD Satellite I don't think you want to be tying the video quality down to S-Video.

There are two signals to consider here. Video and Audio. TV's are expert at Video and A/V Receivers are expert at Audio, so each should get first crack at the specialty for which it is designed.

HDMI or Component Video (Red, Green and Blue RCA cables) are the best and ONLY ways you'll get Hi Def to the TV. If you route EACH HIGH DEF SOURCE'S VIDEO DIRECTLY to the TV (instead of through the receiver or a switch) the TV/monitor will receive the best video digital data.

Digital Audio from as close to the real source as possible (SAT Box, maybe) to the receiver.

Standard analog audio from the SAT box to the TV for watching lo-fi content like news and weather without the Sony HTS turned on.

I have a 42 in LG HDTV and a dish satellite and a LG surround sound system how to I hook these up to hear sound while watching the sat

See if your satellite receiver has a digital out socket in the back ( optic / coaxial ). If so get yourself an optic/coaxial cable and link the TV out to your LG Home Theaters optic/coaxial In.
Now if your Satellite receiver does not have a digital out for sound you will have to connect the TV's audio out to the LG Home Theater Systems Aux / SAT / CBL input using appropriate cables .Either 3.5mm phono to 2RCA or 2 RCA to 2 RCA cables.

Just need to know how to hook up to tv to get sound

If you don't have a cable box or satellite receiver, you will use the "Audio Out" or "Monitor Out" from the TV to any audio input on the receiver. It's just a standard RCA cable or if you have an "Optical input" on the receiver, use that. If you are using a cable box or sat, the audio would come from the cable/sat receiver by standard RCA, Optical, or Digital Coaxial, whichever your AV receiver will support. Hope this helps. If you need further help, post a comment and I can walk you thru it.

Connecting and recording sony hdtv, rdr-hx780 recorder, sony dream system

I have the same system, except for the TV, I have a project (that part doesn't matter).

From your Sat. go straight to your AV receiver
Again from you Sat. (all of the AV outputs are all live), go out from either 1 or 2 and go to your recorder Line 1 in.
From you AV receiver go to your TV.

All you have to do is hit record and you will record whichever channel you are on. I am having difficulty getting it set up as a PVR, but will figure it out sooner or later.

Hope this helped.
