Desktop at home

Hello, my daughter has a desk top computer at home and everything has been going fine; until one day last week I was trying to turn it on and the screen just keeps blinking and we cannot see anything clear on the screen. Do you think it could be a short or more serious problem?

Thanks, Pam

Hi,
do you have a spare monitor?
try and plug the other monitor in where that one is to see if that makes any difference. Your video card may have come loose inside the computer and that can cause that too. If the other monitior shows signs of the same issue, unplug everything and put the desktop on a table, get a screwdriver and a flashlight, undo the lid , there should be an access cover or maybe the whole cover has to come off, study where the monitor plugs in, but on the inside, its a medium size circuit board, and theres a phillips head screw holding it to the frame, see if thats loose, look closely to where the video card is plugged into the big circuit board and see if its loose, gently push it back into its slot, tighten that phillips screw
hopefully that helps

I was using my computer one day. I shut down for the day, everything was fine. The next day I attempted to turn it on and the green light did not come on and I had no screen. Everything was dead.

More likely the power supply had died, look for bad caps with leaking/bulging top, fuse, etc.

My HP W1907 monitor works fine until I try to play The Sims 3 game. I play for several minutes or hours and the monitor shows the message that it is going to sleep and the light on the monitor goes...

Hi there. I had the same problem months ago when I try to play high end games like Sims 3 my monitor goes into power saving mode. I tried to check every possible causes of the problem. It could be that your computer is overheating try to clean your computer and check if your fans still works. Second it could me your power supply malfunctioning, maybe it does not meet the required power to make your game work. Last cause is your video card malfunctioning, what I did is to just buy a new video card and it works.
If you do not have spare power supply or video card you can go to a computer repair shop for them to check the possible problem that causes it to go into power saving mode. It can also save you money before you can buy a new one.
Hope this helps, Have a good day!

We leave our computer turned on at night but we turn off the monitor. The last two weeks when we have turned on our monitor in the morning it will show the desktop but when we move the mouse the monitor...

Yes. Do not turn the monitor off by its power switch, let the computer do the work for you. Alot of times when people use the power switch to turn off the monitor, the computer sees that all of a sudden the monitor has been disconnected from the pc. when that happens the pc sees it as a device beimg unplugged and removes that certain device from the pc's list of things that should be connected, and when you turn it back on the pc sees it again and starts loading drivers for that new part(monitor)

When the computer is turned on the monitor goes to sleep mode

Go to safe mode, select boot in vga mode.

If this allows you to start,

Click start,Run type desk.cpl
Screen Saver tab | click on Energy
Under desk or office settings frame, set all values to "never".
Then click
Advanced Options, you'll see a frame asking you what to do.
Just select the options to turn off sleep mode.
check that out.

If you can't start this way,you need to try another monitor to change the setting above.

Please rate this a fixya
