Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

We are getting a constant smudge on the left hand side of our printing copies. I have cleaned the drum, but this has not helped. If you like I could fax you a copy showing you where the spots. Thanks for your help.

I have a repeating, tiny magenta (only) spot repeating on the right side at 1" intervals.  Have replaced the toner, replaced the fuser, cleaned the black mylar film.  The black mylar film had the magenta spot of toner and I cleaned it off, ran multiple copies of blank docs, but the dot keeps coming back in the same place.  I think this thing is possessed.

Try replacing the toner cartridge, but if it continues I'd think it's probably your fuser.

How do you clean the print rollers? All my copies have a long vertical smudge/streak that runs entire length of the right side of the sheet (8.5x11 and 11x17).

It might not be the rollers but the image drum. A bad image drum will sometimes cause streaks on print outs. If you look at the right side of the image drum you will probably see a streak that matches what is being left on your paper. Be careful not to touch the image drum as it will cause fingerprint on your printouts! Of course if the image drum is bad it will need replacing and fingerprints won't matter.

Black smudges down left side of page

How do I clean white or black spots on printed documents? Description: First make 10 to 15 copies of a blank, white sheet of paper.
If you still see the spots on printed documents after making multiple copies, clean the drum unit as follows:

  1. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, and then remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.
  2. Position the print sample in front of the drum unit so you will know the exact position on the drum that is causing the poor print.
  3. all-ug-19.gif
  4. Turn the black gear on the drum as you check the surface of the OPC drum.
The OPC drum is photosensitive so do not touch it with your fingers.
  5. all-ug-20.gif
  6. When you find the substance on the drum surface that matches the print sample, gently dab the surface of the OPC drum with a cotton swab that is lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  7. Note
      • Do not use a scrubbing or wiping motion because this might damage the drum.
        all-ug-21.gif
      • Do not try to clean the surface of the OPC drum with a sharp object, such as a ball-point pen, because this might cause permanent damage to the drum unit.
  8. If the print quality still has not improved you need to install a new drum.

Mfc9840 has yellow spotty smudges down left hand side of paper when printed

Firstly you need to remove all toners, and drum, then vacume all interior.
Check the transfer belt, drum for any dirt or residues of yellow toner.
If cleaning doesnot help, change the dirty part.

Ink smudges on printed page.

I had the same problem when i refilled my cartridge. All I did to solve it was this: I removed the cartridge from the printer and cleaned the green cylinder with a very soft cloth. There is a cogwheel on both sides of the cylinder, so you can move the cylinder by turning the cogwheel. On my cartridge there were a few, hard ink-spots, i had to rub a little to wipe them off. When I removed them, the problem was solved.

Black smudge marks along left side edge of paper.

Its probably a defective toner. If the film on the toner drum is scratched it can cause toner to stick to the drum everytime it spins causing the constant marks.

Black smudges on copies

Hi, try to pull out complete process unit(cartridge) with toner box .You have cleaner(blue or green color) move this cleaner from right to left side 4 or 5 times.Note that cleaner MUST be in home position-right side when you finish.Check print.
If problem still persists, you must do following:take away small grey plastic cap on left side of cartridge, then push complete charge corona(part with cleaner on top of it) to left side just enough to lift right side of corona from cartridge.Pull out that corona and you can see drum and developer roller. Turn the gear on drum, and look for smudges on black developer roller.Try to clean smudges with brush or with dry cloth.Toner will again attract to that area, but regular.
