I had the exact same thing happen on my LNT3242H, and we called samsung customer service as were still in warranty. The technician came out and made the diagnosis that the panel was out(which he said was a rare issue), so they had to special order a replacement panel and it took us a couple weeks to get the tv back.

hi, not sure if you have the same fault as i had, but our tv only had half the screen go off, after looking up on the internet i found a video for a fix, what you need to do is remove the back cover, there will be ribbons that go from the front screen to the main panel, i removed each one at a time and rubbed the contacts of the ribbon with a rubber on the end of a pencil, plugged them all back in and switched it on and it was now spot on, thats more than a year ago and its still working spot on, hope this helps
If this is related to no picture or sound, then the power supply in many of these Samsung's TV's have under rated capacitors installed causing them to bulge or fail. If you are out of warranty and cannot fix it yourself, get someone who understands electronics to verify the problem and fix it.
Check with Samsung, this model should still be under the 3 year warranty. You are having a problem with the backlight power supply. You can look on the back of the unit for the manuf. date, if its less than 3 years then go to www.samsung.com and process the online service request form.
Reset the Directv box,by unplug it,replug it and hour later to let the last software to update.Replaced the HDMI cable, goto ur tv menu, goto sound functions,go down to reset it back to the factory setting. After this the the sound functions should be stable, and work. Not,than ur Tuner signal board have some kind of intermittion short in the board.Than must replaced the Tuner board to solved this problems.
check if the back lamps are still on when you lose image, all you have to do is get close to the screen and make is totally black and if is not that means you have a back light working, but if the back light is gone you may have a defective panel.
talked to samsung TA about the same problem I had and the recommend to replace the power supply first to confirm a defective panel because a panel is quite expensive
