During the summer, use your ceiling fan in the counterclockwise direction. The airflow directly underneath the ceiling fan should push down, creating a wind-chill effect, which is going to make you feel cool. Reversing your fan, to a clockwise direction, creates a gentle updraft, recirculating heat down. For details http://manofsteel.in/keep-your-house-cool-in-summer-withou.../
The agitator is designed to “ratchet” and turn one way but not the other. If your clothes are being twisted, that is most likely a transmission problem where it tries to agitate and spin at same time
ceiling fans have a direction switch in the cover just above the fan motor
it is very possible that during the installation this switch was moved to the wrong direction for the fans to blow down
get a good step ladder and with the fan off check the fan switch and move it to a new position
there should be a small tag saying rev/fwd or up/down
when looking up at the fan , it should be rotating clockwise
On the body of the fan motor is a small sliding switch(up and down), if you cannot reach it you can use a broomstick to carefully change it's position.
The tech told me whre the switch was and at some point this winter I will get a very tall ladder and switch the fan over to clockwise - not a very good design on Hampton Bay's part.
