Ff 301 keyboard error - PC Desktops

I have this problem too. I Think there is some sort of a conflict going on or a harware problem. There isn't much info in the bios. Everthing seems auto configure (or on/ off). The funny thing is, on a clean boot, that is when the problem crops up. But if I update the intel chipset driver (and it reboots) the problem goes away until the next fresh boot. Then I have to re-install the chipset drivers again to clear the problem. My guess is that it's either XP, IE7 or the actual eMachine harware. Is anyone aware of there being any "known system bugs"?

1. This can happen if you have the mouse and keyboard plugged in the wrong ports. Can you double-check you are plugging the keyboard into the correct port.....

2. several keys pressed simultaneously

3. key on the keyboard is stuck (try a different keyboard and see if you get the same error.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use an incorrect version of the Command.com file. For example, this issue is known to occur if you use a Command.com file included in Microsoft Windows 95, dated 7/11/95.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, replace the Command.com file in the Winnt\System32 folder with the same file from another computer that is running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, and then make sure that there are no Command.com files dated 7/11/95 on the computer. You can also replace the Command.com file on the computer with the same file on the Windows NT installation CD-ROM.

These new graphics cards pull a lot of power from the power supply. I know you didn't start off having this issue but given the symptoms you are experiencing I'd take a closer look at the power supply and perhaps replace it with a 650 watt or better.

Keyboard doesnt work on my repaired emachine with win xp

Could be a couple of things.

First, try connecting another keyboard using the same type of connection as your keyboard. (PS2, or USB). If that one works in the machine; then it's more then likely that there is a problem with your keyboard.

If it doesn't work, it may be a problem with the system itself or possibly a software problem. To test a keyboard is very simple and this test is integrated in most of the BIOS startup systems today. Simply press more than 7 keys right when you turn your power on to the system. If it beeps after a few seconds of holding or brings up a keyboard error, then the keyboard is communicating with the system. If there's a keyboard error that actually states that there is no keyboard present; then there is a problem.

I hope this helps you narrow it down. If it's not the keyboard itself, and you can't get any keyboards to work, I'd have that shop take another look at what they did.

What is a 301 Keyboard Error and how do I correct this problem.

The motherboard has device controllers that read id #'s of your hardware. When a device fails, a fail code is thrown out which is attached to the device id. Sometimes when en error has been cleared the code for that device may not. Try to boot the computer with the mouse removed & a different keyboard. Shut down & install the mouse & original keyboard. Let me know what happens

IBM keyboard not recognised, had 301 error, reser cmos and battery. only error message now is date/time, but can't scroll on setup screen as keyboard still wont work, tried other keyboard

Try a Microsoft/Windows update and look for the hardware update ( select Hardware updates on the left side of the page) to see if there is one for your keyboard. It may fix your problem?
