SOURCE: Not cold enough

I opened the bottom panel at the back of the fridge and cleaned the coil because it was completely covered with dust and lints and less than an hour later the fridge side temp started going down and the freezer took five hours for the temp to start going down when we didn't open it for that much time. It's back to factory setting now and thanks for the blogs that I read that I was able to try different possibilities. Your site is very helpful.

SOURCE: Refrigerator does not get cold - GE side by side

In my GE side-by-side refrigerator (model number GSS20IEMDWW), there is a motor-controlled flapper door between the freezer and fresh food side. Cold air from the freezer side cools the fresh food side when that flapper door is open.

It is located at the top of the fresh food side on the dividing wall between the fresh food side and the freezer. If this is blocked with something (large left-over container, soft drink bottles, etc), it _may_ be enough to prevent sufficient cooling of the fresh food side.

Of course, there may be a more serious problem with the flapper door mechanism or the control unit that signals the flapper door to open/close.

The vegetable and deli drawers may have a small opening (manually controlled with a wheel or a slider of some sort) that connects those drawers to the freezer side, thus explaining how those areas are still functioning as expected.

A standard top mount freezer from sears is 18 cu ft, a little bit larger is a 19 cu ft, then 21cu ft, and then 22, 25, and 26 cu feet for side by side models. How did I do without your make model or anythang to go by? LOL

I'm unble to determine what the cu ft is for my GE side by side. Model # TFX24RHB. Can someone help?

It's typical of GE to have the cubic footage in their model number, so yours should be 24 cubic feet.

How many cu ft is it?I have a tfx25zpbeww

The number in the model number is the cubic foot size. In this case, between 24.5 and 25.4, so it is called a 25 cubic foot model.
