Check all speakers cables for good connection from receiver rear to speaker---no short between speakers cables----bring a spray contact lubricant and apply it over volume and then move it forward and backward.

I have a JVC RX 554v Receiver when it's turned on I have no sound their is a mute auto light that's lit in the window....Tried changing the speaker wires with no results...

From the remote control only: Press MUTING to turn off the sound through all speakers and headphones connected. "MUTE" appears on the display and the volume turns off. To restore the sound, press MUTING again. Turning MASTER VOLUME or pressing VOLUME +/- also restores the sound.

the problem is probably a bad power transformer that will need to be replaced the best way is to contact JVC and they will be able to help you more. it may be easier to purchase a new reciever.

Rear speakers do not sound right they are working but sound muffled or something help??

Rear speakers in 5.1 are no more than sound reinforcement. The brunt of the work is done by the front left and right with most of the burden falling on the center channel.
