I have a sharp dv-rw260h. I put a DVD in to check what was on it and the machine won't stop 'reading'it. Cannot get machine to do any other function whilst it is 'reading and cannot find a manual dvd release mechanism. How can I get DVD out?

Turned machine off at the mains for about 15 minutes. When I turned it back on, it started 'reading' again but then a message came on screen saying that it was checking the disc....it said that the procedure would take about 15 minutes but stuck on 'five minutes left'. Tried the eject button again after about 2 hours and the drawer opened. Checking message still showed so I turned the machine off and on again and everything was fine.

Hi, I have a Sharp DV-RW360H which has been working fine. I have dubbed various VHS tapes to DVD and now need to finally the discs so they can play in other machines. However when I press the setup button...

Try one of the discs in another machine. You only need to finalise them if you want to ensure no more is put on them. To finalise a disc you need to use the write or burn functions, not the setup menu. Get the manual for this from the sharp website and read it.

I have a Sharp DV-RW550U VCR/DVD Recorder

check for bad capacitors (make sure its top is not bulged), check for bad step down transformer on unit. one or more of these may need to be replaced, if you are replacing faulty capacitors, make sure they are of same uF ratings, the unit will accept a +/- tolerance difference of 10%
