Scanner Fault When I power up, the machine cycles through tests and gives me a "Scanner Fault" reading.  When I lift the lid and look at the scanning area I see three red lcd's.  What do I do?

If it's a Xerox machine, make sure that the cable from the scanner to the machine is not bent/loose.
If you still get the error, what is the error code? (should be xx-xxx)

It all depends on what make and model the copir is...... Need alittle more info.

    I work on every other make and model of copiers & faxs & printers... I don't work on Xerox's copiers at all, just the small table top ones. Can't help on this one...

I get a black line when scanning, ( not when printing)how do i fix it


This is commonly caused by a mark on the scanner plate. If you place your document to scan on the scanner plate (Lift the lid and place it on the glass plate) and scan or copy the document does it come out clean? If you feed the document through the Auto Document Feeder doe the line appear?

If when place on the plate it is clean but fed through the ADF there is a line, then when you lift the lid on the scanner you will see a narrow glass plate at the end (Normally the left end) of the scanner plate. Give this glass a clean and your mark will go away.

If the scan or copy is lined when using the Flatbed scanner and the ADF then the problem will be in the scanner lamp which will be probably uneconomical to fix.

How do I resolve the error 'failed to initialize selected scanner'?


Lift the lid as if you are going to make a copy of a document.. then whith the lid up turn the printer off still with the lid up turn the printer on and watch the scan lamp .. the light that moves when you make a copy. Verify that it lights up and moves back and forth. If it does not move back and forth the scanner lock may be in the locked position.. let me know

How to fix failed to initialize selected scanner?


Lift the lid as if you are going to make a copy of a document.. then whith the lid up turn the printer off still with the lid up turn the printer on and watch the scan lamp .. the light that moves when you make a copy. Verify that it lights up and moves back and forth. If it does not move back and forth the scanner lock may be in the locked position.. let me know..

Printer will not scan


he HP All-in-One product displays one of the following error messages on the control panel when scanning or copying:
  • Scanner failure, power off and on
  • Scanner System Failure
  • Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
  • Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
  • Scanner failure, cycle power
Additionally, the scanner bulb might not turn on during scanning.ry the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.Solution one: Check the scanner lightFollow these steps to check the scanner light by making a color copy of any document.
  1. Load plain white, unused, letter size paper in the paper tray.
  2. Lift the scanner lid, place the original face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.
  3. Make a color copy.
  4. When the product starts to scan the document to copy, slightly lift the scanner lid to see if the scanner light turns on. It is not necessary to lift the lid completely CAUTION:Do not look directly at the scanner light.The scanner light should be visible under the scanner glass to the right or left.Figure 1: Scanner light visible underneath the glass

    • If the scanner light does not turn on when the scanner mechanism moves across the scanner bed, continue to the solution to reset the product.

Why does my HP 1500 prints a test page every time I begin touse it???


HI
As soon as the printer prints the test page or alignment page place it on the scanner glass (Place the printed side down) before that Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
After That press scan on the printer button panel it will resolve your issue.
Try to double check it by turning it off and turning the printer back on after 2 minute's. If still the problem exists call HP Total Care 800 - 474 - 6836 if you are from US/Canada.
) Lift the lid of the product.
2) Place the top of alignment page face down in the right front corner of the glass.
3) Place the alignment page face down
4) Close the lid.
5) Press the Start Scan button.
6) The Power button light will blink during the alignment process.
7) After the Power button light stops blinking, alignment is complete.

MFC8860DN SAY'S SCANNER LOCKED?? WHAT'S THE FIX??


Hello my friend.If you open the scanners door under the document cover is one switch that locks and unlocks the scanner.Move it to the position that shows that is unlocked.If this doesnt work it means the scanner lamp is in the park position and is stuck. You need to lean the printer away from the sheet feed side and bump it on the side. This should fix it. If it doesn't turn off the power and remove the two screws that hold the scanner lid on. Then remove the other 6 screws located under the lid on the left side while the lid is hanging from lid open sensor cable . After removing the base screws you can set the lid on the scanner again while you lift the scanner bed exposing the scan lamp mechanism. Push it a few inches in the machine and close the lid. You can do a test by powering the unit on and hold the lid open sensor button located on the bottom left of the lid. The system should initialize and bring the scan lamp back to the proper position. Turn off replace all screws and your done. If it doesn't work the first time push the scanner lamp more into the scanning area and repeat until works.

The printer is making a gear clicking sound.


I had exactly the same problem with my OfficeJet 6110 as reported above (i.e. the scan head not knowing where the end-stop is). This is how to fix it (this method worked for me) 1) Lift up the scanner/copier hinged lid. Around the edge of the scan glass are 4 Torx screws. Undo all four screws. 2) Carefully prise the control panel faceplate off. The buttons underneath are on a single panel. Slide this to the left and lift off. 3) Jiggle the lid of the scanner to get it off the main body of the printer. 4) Locate the scan engine motor (top right corner) and remove the two motor retaining screws (one on the left of the motor, the other on the right). 5) Lift out the entire mechanism (rod, drive belt, scan head) and turn over. 6) Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrored areas of the scan head. Also clean the scan lamp on the top of the scan head. Clean the tray inside the scanner (where the scan head travels back and forth). Also clean the inside and outside of the scanner glass pane itself. 7) Refit all parts, using the technique described above, in reverse order. 8) Switch on printer. It should now work OK. I had the same problem. It means the scanner lamp is in the park position and is stuck. You need to lean the printer away from the sheet feed side and bump it on the side. This may fix it. If it doesn't turn off the power and remove the two screws that hold the scanner lid on. Then remover the other 6 screws located under the lid on the left side while the lid is hanging from lid open sensor cable be carefull not to drop the lid, break the cable or the glass bed. After removing the base screws you can set the lid on the scanner again while you lift the scanner bed exposing the scan lamp mechanism. Push it a few inches in the machine and close the lid. You can do a test by powering the unit on and hold the lid open sensor button located on the bottom left of the lid. The system should initialize and bring the scan lamp back to the proper position. Turn off replace all screws and your done. If it doesn't work the first time push the scanner lamp farther into the scanning area and repeat. Good Luck

Can no longer scan negatives


Hi,
READ THIS ALL THE WAY TO THE END. I CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS.
I assume that the light in the lid does not light when trying to scan a negative.
Remove the lid from the scanner, unplug the connecting lead and lift off.
Remove the TWO screws near to the rear edge, holding the scanner plate in place.
GENTLY lift the lid around 15mm (the edge that has just had the screws removed) and GENTLY move backwards.
This will release the lid and it can be removed.
You will see the circuit board that controls the cold cathode lamp.
Check out the continuity of the lead with a meter.
The lamp can be removed as you will see in the photograph for easy replacement.
Refitting is simply a reversal of the above steps.
