Re: Problem when Trying to record
Please check Mini DV Cassette right corner, there is tab which has mark "Rec" & "Save". If this tab is open or at Save position, camera wont record any thing on this cassette. Just close this tab at Rec position and try. Hope problem will be solved.

samsung is awful. i only used my camera a handful of times and then same problem with the protection mode. since its out of warranty i have to pay for the repair. they told me that it has never ever been a reported issue, so being that said i have to pay for repair on a faulty part. (I literally used this camera 10 times most since i bought it 4 years ago) they are horrid! not to mention how long it took me to get anywhere. they hung up on me 3 times, and I also kept getting disconnected! I will never own another samsung again!
there should be a little tab on the tape that can be moved (the one on my tape is red) if it is closed it stops the tape from being able to record anything and if it is open you should not see the protection on the screen
My Samsungcamcorder one day displays protection. Used or new tape no difference. Used the menu options to remove protection and it gives me a play mode alert. Regardless I can not record in protection mode. Help!
you have to check the firewire securety port.... it protect the camera from the wrong conections with the pc... it doesn"t complot the camera work.... if you have a playback recorder deck it can wait ....
I have found, that if you oilthe gears ( DO NOT OIL THE PLASTIC ROLLERS OR THE RECORDING HEAD, DO NOT USE WD40, USE AN ACTUAL OIL DRIPPER), and the hinge on the camera tape door, that it... So far has fixed my issue with the same problems and have been good for 6 months now. The camera would flach stuck tape, eject, and it would act as if it was stuck.
The same thing happens to me when I try to record thru the "A/V in jack". It appears (my first thought) that the camera is trying to record to the internal drive and it runs out of memory really quick. But then, when I play it back, (the small 15 seconds or so) the audio and video are not sync'd. Most of the time at least. Very inconsistent. It also locked up and froze for me too. I had to remove the battery to reset it. Once or twice it recorded normal, (once when I reset the default settings and another time just out of the blue) - I thought I had it solved but it went back to "File Failed" after about 17-20 seconds of recording on the next record session.
I have the thing packed up ready to take back, but am looking for a solution so I can keep it..
It most likely IS the .mov file. I recommend buying quicktime pro, $20, which will allow you to convert the file, or if you get the free version of quicktime, and the video and audio play fine with it, You can use a screen recorder and turn off the "record external Mic" mode, and turn ON "Record Computer Audio" Once you're done converting (or recording) You can go ahead and edit, Hoped this helped- sincerely:

have suddenly getting a "Protection" message in Camera mode. - The viewfinder is OK and i can see the view but a "Protection!" message is blinking in the middle of the screen and the record button is not working if i press
This camera has a history of the flexible harness located on the cassette housing tearing when it rubs against the frame as the housing moves in and out. The harness tears and opens the circuit that detects the tapes record lockout tab, the camera is preventing you from recording on the tape in error. This repair requires replacemnent of the cassette housing, not for the faint of heart.
I wish you luck.
