My Samsung HCM 4215 42" rear projection tv is having a problem with the color. Any red in the picture drops down like a wave. Not sure if this can be fixed on my own or not.

This could be a plossible issue with your CRT socket

Here is a post i made on one of the tint/color shadow issues previously:

as per description you have an issue with the CRT socket that solder on the part may have cracks (this causes the "too much green"), What you are saying indicates that the blue gun is intermitten, and the solder joints on the CRT socket itself (blue cathode) or the blue output transistor have probably cracked loose. once again, all you have to do is resolder it in place to ensure that the CRT sockets are mounted, and that will solve your problem,

The CRT socket is located behind it near the audio or video input.

hope this helps

You will probably have to replace both convergence chips (there are 2), this tv has an auto-convergence, and they get really hot and sometimes burn out. Use thermal compound on the heatsink to avoid this happening again.

The failure in you TV is the convergence STK ICs. This might be a DIY project by swapping the assemblies.
Click here to find the assembly you need to fix your TV. Keep in mind that even after replacing the convergence board, you might still have to perform some alignments.

Hello,
This is actually a convergence problem, which could be caused to due over flow of current or power surge which might have affected your circuit board TV..First try the Hard reset..Try to Unplug the Tv for 1 or 2 hours and then plug it and check it!..If that doesnt work then check your circuit for any burnt Ic's or resistors or for any short circuit..Hope this helps you out..!!..Thank you...

Regards!!..

Lcd looks a red wave line it look like it's out

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Samsung Tantus HCM 22 convergence problem

Check this website to buy the entire convergence amplifier board. Replacing the entire boars is a DIY since there isn't any soldering involve only open back cover of the TV and unplug a few wires to remove the old board and install the new one. Keep in mind that this board could be used or reburbished.
Samsung no longer has the assembly.
