My sister sent me a second hand Dell Lattitude laptop installed with an XP prfessional OS. How do I bypass the password?

Well, reset windows password is very easy.

If you do not mind lost data, you can re-install windows.

If you do not want to lose data, you can follow the instructions below to recover it.

Step 1: Download and install Windows Password Reset from http://www.windowspasswordreset.net
Step 2: Burn Windows Password Reset Std ISO file to CD/DVD
Step 3: Put in your newly created CD and remove your Windows Password.

The method above is adopt a tool, very easy, right?

If you have a resource CD from Dell, you can boot from that CD by powering on the laptop and pressing F12 which will bring you to a boot menu. Insert the Resource CD and select boot from CD/DVD device. Follow prompts for diagnostics to run custom and select Audio or speakers. If you hear sound then the hardware is working. Your OS (operating system) is the problem.

Ok first do you have the windows xp professional cd to restore your system. That will be your first thing to do if you cannot remember your password. If you do then reload the system to the original state. Let me know if you need any assistant by doing that.

After reinstalling XP, did you install all the required drivers from support.dell.com?

OK, You will need another computer that has a CD burner and a floppy drive. I will give you two links that explain how to do this.

Instuctions are included on these two links but you will need some help. Have a look and post a comment with your thoughts.

Your hard drive may need reseating.
If it still gives error hard disk not found then you have a faulty hard drive.
You need a new hard drive and then install Windows Vista

That white screen is asking for your bios password. You probably set that the last time you did changes in the bios. If you bought the laptop second hand and the previous owner forgot to give you the password, contact him, or if you can not and/or do not remember the password you set, you have to contact dell, and they can give you a password for it, is no problem for a computer you own. They're gonna ask you for the original owner information before they'llhelp you though. If you don't have the original information (ie youbought it second hand or off someone), you'll have to do a transfer ofownership. You need to give them the service tag and the express servicecode, that are on a sticker somewhere on the computer (bottom in case oflaptops). Enter the info in the required previous owner fields. Enterall your contact info and submit. It should transfer in a few minutes. Here's the link:

Hate to say this .. if the BIOS is locked , there is nothing much, that can be done.
You need to call Dell Tech support , verify the account information and they would give you an unlock code for the BIOS . Once thats is done opening windows is easy .
