I have a fucntional CanoScan N640P ex. I have it plugged into my laptop via a USB converter cable from the I/O port. What driver do I need to get this working? Thanks Paul

You can buy a usb to parallel adapter at any compuier store

I have many years of experince repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion.

First off I would go back to USB its faster then a parallel cable for scanning purposes. Second if your computer is a very old one then just get a usb card and install it in to your computer. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for the operating system your running. The drivers are free on Canons website. Just google Canon Canoscan N640P drivers it should take you directly to Canon's website also I would download capture perfect its free also an will function perfectly with your scanner.

When you install the newest drivers make sure your scanner is disconnected from your computer. Once the drivers are installed then attach the USB cable to your computer. You should get a message saying new drivers are being installed then reboot your computer and you should be good to go with whatever you want to scan.

This scanner is an old one so it has only parallel port. You can connect it to any USB with the converter you mentioned and should be working. Did you connect the power supply at the scanner too? It is nesessary for the scanner in order to take power.

yes, there are cables the will convert a parallel connection to usb. do a search in google for "parallel port to usb" and there will be some links to some stores that sell them.

please the old scaner programmi is unstoll and you go a run and add a scaner progremme cd instolldrriver orignal and start the scaner is on
just you used the window xp if fouto didate and give a usb cable and use a scaner

Dear Hiraimport,

I have looked for the driver. I found one on the Australian website from Canon. On the USA site there are only drivers for the N650U or higher models.
