Question about Canon (6981A002AA) for imagerunner 2200, 2800, 3300 Print Server

1 Answer

Canon Imageclass 2200 won't print

We have a Canon ImageClass 2200 that will not print, not even a test page. The copier works fine but when we try to print absolutely nothing happens. Also, we just replaced the toner cartridge (with a Canon one) and the error light keeps flashing. Could it possibly be a defective cartridge? They are not cheap and would hate to purchase another one only to find out that it was the machine. I would appreciate it if anyone knows of a link to a user guide or some kind of insight to this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I could not find any of the buttons that you mentioned. Perhaps the ImageCLASS 2220 (which is what we have) and the ImageRUNNER has different control panels. Also, i've just found out that if the cartridge is taken out and put back in the red light will stop flashing but will only allow you to print a page or two and then it comes back on and the printing fails. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

1st thing for you to do is to press the "System Monitor" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the touch panel. This should at least tell you why the red light flashing.

I'm guessing that it might be printer related, and not with the toner, because you mentioned that you can copy, and if the problem was with the toner you wouldn't be able to do anything.

As for the printer problem, thats a tricky one. Printing on that model of machine is optional, meaning that its a piece of hardware that needs to be printed and fitted to the machine. The easiest way for you as a user to see if the machine is capable of printing is to press the user mode button (star with the head shape around it), press "system settings" > "network settings". In this display if there is a button marked "IPX/SPX" then the machine is capable of printing. if there is no such button then it cant print.

In the case of the IPX/SPX button being present, the chances are very good that the printing problem and the flashing error light are related.

A very simple check to do as well is to press the user mode button, and then print settings, and settings. go to paper feed and look for an entry marked "override A4/LTR", and make sure that it is set to on. From experience I can tell you that 90% of print problems that I've had to deal with on this model was because of this setting being off.

If none of the items that I've given you seems to work, the only other advice that I can offer is to read what the system monitor tells and follow the corrective steps, also given by the system monitor in some cases.

As for the manual download, unfortunately I cannot help there

Try turning off the device, unplug power cable and turn on to flush the memory. Change the power cable as well. If this doesn't resolve the issue, probably something is loose in the board. Contact your support.

Networking imagerunner 2200

First, plug the printer into the network with an Ethernet cable. Then, go into the configuration page on the printer's display and print a configuration page. Look for the IP address. When you have that, go to the computers that need to connect to the printer. (Note that this tutorial is for Windows XP, I am not familiar with Vista but this should give you a basic overview.) Go to Start > Printers and Faxes. Click add a printer on the left hand side of the window. Select a Local printer attached to this computer, and unselect automatically detect. On the next page, click create a new port > TCP/IP port. Type in the IP address of the printer. Then choose the driver you are going to use, you should be able to find the IR 2200 driver under canon pretty easily. If not, go to canon.com and download their drivers. Once you do this, print a test page and it should print. You are then fully configured.

My Apologies. I was under the impression that you have the ImageRunner. Unfortunately I cannot help with your device as I'm not familiar with it at all.
