Dvd drive hi i have a lite o dvd /cd burner and it will not play any discs at all cd or dvd , originals or burnt copies .its as if it detects the disc is in the drive and makes a couple of noises then thats it nothing , wont read it

My parents had a Sony drive that was the same. The guy at the store says that some sony models have a chip that detects the type of disc and will only play originals.
dont eject the cd when windows is still using the cd anyway ,like copying ,songs playing ,
easiest solution -restart the pc
i face the problem but it is once a time not repeated so ,restarting the pc.no more ideas

I have two LITE-ON DVD DRW LH-18A1P on drive (E:) and drive (F:) It has gone from everything working great to not being able to burn a DVD. When placing a DVD into either (E:) or (F:) it shows up in my Window's Explorer as a CD drive.... Only allowing me to burn a CD in these drives.... Can play past burnt DVD's though in both both drives.... hve tried a couple of different brand disc, LG and TDK and get the same message appears 'to please insert a dics', need help I do!!! lcs2

you can try uninstalling the drive, by going to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for cd/dvd drives, click on '+' sign and right click on your drive make and select uninstal.
Restart pc and your drive will be reinstalled automatically again.
If you have a cd cleaner disc run that also.
Try to run the game again, although it may still not work as the drives laser seems to be out of line or simply run it's life, and a new drive is the only answer i'm afraid.
the cd is playing but dvd is not playing
