Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kenmore (frigidaire) model #253.55679400 evaporator fan does not come on

The freezer is working fine, but the evaporator fan will not come on to move the air into the fridge side. The evaporator is not a block of ice and the heat coil is working. Does the ADC PCB control the fan and the damper? When I first plug the unit in the evaporator fan comes on for about 1 min.In the past I have had this problem, but when I unplugged the unit and left it overnight it worked fine in the morning and continued to work for about 5 weeks. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Yes, the fan is controlled by the pcb controller, but it is also dependent on the temperature sensor since it is waiting for the sensor to give the signal that the freezer coils has froze up before turning the fan on.

it could be a bad freezer temp sensor.

i hope i was able to solve your problem,

My upright frigidaire freezer won't cool. Lowest temp it goes to is 1 degree. Fan works. model number is Ffh17f7hwj

Remove back plate and check to see if evaporator is frozen over. If so, your defrost timer/heater is not working. Till repaired defrost unit completely. It will work fine till it freezes up again or you make the necessary repairs. Not hard to do just a PIA.

Evaporator fan is not working and temp in freezer is not working but the coils are working

You will need to replace the evaporator fan assembly. I didn't see your model number posted but here is a link to the Frigidaire fan kit that should cover all models.

Have Kenmore refrigerator and fan in freezer is not working ....any suggestions ?

Frost build up is normal... and SHOULD be expected...
You should check your DEFROST PAN at the bottom
(it should have STANDING WATER evaporating daily
(dust is usually an indication of DEFROST FAILURE
(easy to fix))

ALSO the FAN should NOT run with the door open...

My best advise ... if indeed that was ICE...
typically caused by air intrusion...
(sometimes just result of a cube stuck in the
(door service) chute.. or a pizza box holding a
door ajar (worlds will not end)))... Clear that ICE
and easily expect another 9 years of faithful service...!!

You need to allow that machine to defrost at room temperature
for as long as it takes to melt that ICE... COMPLETELY.

Helping it with a fan at ROOM TEMPERATURE is fine,,,
but ABSOLUTELY use no heated air (damage can occur).

Good temperatures in Refrigerator/Freezer sides is a
VERY GOOD indicator...

look over your door seals and make sure they are in full
contact ... ALL-THE-WAY-AROUND.

Comment me back...

You can do this (inexpensively)
Common Refrigerator Symptoms Symptom Diagnosis Sears PartsDirect ... SEARS parts were getting pretty competitive...
Now I cannot push it into a PRICE without talking to one of their CLOWN HEADS (pushy parts folks... My opinion).

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You have most likely found the problem being the evaporator fan is turning slowly. Most of the time if there is a voltage problem with and evaporator fan they just do not turn at all. I suspect that the fan bearings are dry and the armature is not turing full speed.

Sometimes you can lubricate the motor with a parrifin based oil and revive them. Most of the time on the white motors lubrication does not work as you can only lubricate one of 2 bearings due to the motor design.

Your evaporator fan motor is here: Detailed view

Component location view: (item 18)

All other parts:

The Evvaporator fan motor voltage should be 120 VAC across the 2 fan motor wires.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator, evaporator fan not running

As insignificant as it may seem, that evap fan motor is as important as petrol in a car. That fan controls the fridge cooling on many fridges and circulation in tha freezer compartment. Replace it with the correct one and you should see a functional fridge/ freezer again. Note, i wouldnt run unit without it for long, as condensig temperatures run high and compressors dont last long.

Kenmore Trio: the refridgerator is not getting cool

In the Freezer or Fridge compartment, there is the Evaporator Fan (& Motor) If the freezer is cold, the Evaporator fan motor most likely went bad. Check to see that when the compressor is running, so should be the fan motor. If not, you have to remove it & replace it. It is not an expensive repair unless you call for service on it. Make sure that you unplug the fridge when you replace the fan motor.
