The black piece that holds the wheel and spring is cracked, therefore the spring does not attach on mine also.Called Dell, since my warranty expired in June they told me I need to buy a new printer.

I had this same problem and with some difficulty was able to fix it.(i have moderate experience with taking things apart but i am no expert.) i had to take the printer apart. just pretty much the outside case, nothing really much inside. on the right you will see this black thing connected by a metal rod. the white gear sits on top in that black thing with the band around the gear. on the bottom the black thing is connected by a spring. what happen to me is that black thing is very weak where the spring connects, and all the tension caused it to break. i was actually able to fix that black thing using paperclips. so far its been holding up and i think it should stay. if you want you can email me skradtim@hotmail.com and i might be able to sketch a picture of how it is connected. you may have to shake your printer upside down to recover any pieces. if you have trouble recovering the spring or any metal piece, check on the far right. their is a small speaker and as you probably know the backs are like magnets.

I have a Dell 966 all in one printer as well. All the sudden the fax won't work. Every time I attempt to send a fax, a fax error message appears. I've tried everything with the exception of throwing it out of the window and beating it with my fist. Any suggestions before I take the other non conventional options?

Printer is saying cartidge error#1203

If you open your printer up so you can see the cartridge, you'll see a very thin possibly "SEE" through plastic bar just behind the cartridge holder. Sometimes this bar comes out of the slot behind the cartridge (its called an encoder strip) and it will just need put back in or it may just need a wipe over. If that doesn't work you will have to dismantle it and check that the ribbon cable that connects cartridge holder to the board is secure.

Pleease reinstall printer driver after installin AIO 966 driver

There must be some misunderstanding. Let me give some hints, First, remove the cartridges, unplug the power cable and the usb cable. Now power on your printer and leave it for few minutes. Again, plug/reinsert them and power on (make sure you connect the usb to the printer as well as on the computer usb port). If you get a small window "Found New Hardware Wizard" then insert you cd into the cd/dvd rom. Select "No Not this Time only" from the "Found New Hardware" wizard and click "next" then select "Install from a list or specific location" click "Next", check the "include this location in the search" click "browse" and manually search the driver to you Cd rom directory. After you locate the driver, click "Ok" then "next", the wizard will search and install the driver and click "finish" when it's done. Do let me know if this helps or not.

Ok it worth a try
Error 1203 is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad...

1 - try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again..
or
2 - when error shows up, shut the printers power off; wait one minute and turn it back on press copy.

My printer (dell Photo AIO printer 966) keeps saying check for obstruction. I looked inside and there is a black band that is just laying on one side (left) of the ink cartriges. What do I do?

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

DELL AIO 966 Carrier belt detached from printer

The belt goes through the back of the ink carrier.

There is a spring somewhere that keeps tension on the belt with the white roller.

The belt itself hooks into the frame of the machine.
