Question about Danby Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a Danby DCR120BLWEY compact refrigerator and the overload protector was fried by lightning. I have been trying to replace this part (#432.44)and cannot locate it, even directly through Danby (on hold for over 1 hour). I'm desperate. Don't want to trash a perfectly good refrigerator for the lack of a small part. Can you help?

I just bought it from bestbuys for $99. It does get really hot when I have the setting on high, but it is still warm when i have it at 1/2 power...warmer than I would like it to be. I connect it straight to the wall outlet.

The temp. may be higher due to ambient temps.

The frige came with messed up box, paint defects...so I thought that it was a decfect/return...but I guess it may be normal for it to get so hot.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Surge protector for refrigerator power

I installed a surge protector on the electrical outlet that powers my LG refrigerator as recommended by the repair tech after my first warranty repair (refrigerator fan and main board). The board that was replaced actually had a burn mark on it where one of the components had fried.
Standard computer plug strip surge protectors may not be large enough for a refrigerator load. I used a plug-in surge protector that is made for use in offices for copiers and large printers since it has the capacity to handle a refrigerator load. Make sure it is one that does not cut off power so the refrigerator will continue to operate if the protector is overloaded or fails.

How do I determine if need refrigerant? Compressor is running hot and 2nd thermal protector has to be bypassed

More than likely one of your external coil cooling fans is not operating. OR Access for the fan to blow cooling air is blocked, or the cooling coil is so dirty the fan air is not effective in cooling the coil. Refrigerators are a sealed system. If the compressor has gotten so hot that the motor has burned you might as well find a lightly used replacement. It will probably be less than a repair by a qualified technician. Even if I told you how to replace the refrigerant the stores would not sell it to you. This is not a car Air conditioner! If you lost refrigerant it has probably burned the compressor motor. The refrigerant "acts" like a cooling system for the compressor motor.

Danby kegerator at 50 degrees. Won't cool. Compressor?

How To Test the Compressor Relay Beneath the terminal cover is found the compressor relay (labeled "A" below), overload protector (labeled "B") and the electrical terminals of the compressor motor. Remove the compressor relay by pulling it straight off from the compressor.Pull the wire off of the side terminal of the relay. It is connected with a slip on connector. Firmly pull the connector, do not pull on the wire. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers. Inspect the connector and terminal for corrosion. If either is corroded they should be cleaned or replaced. bobicehouse_31.jpgThere are two types of relays you may encounter, wire coil and solid state. If the relay has an exposed wound wire coil it can be tested for continuity. Otherwise, the relay is of solid state design and requires specialized equipment for testing.

My refrigerator stopped working because I left the door open for like three hours and the electricity does not go to all the fridge parts like the lighting system is off and the freezer is off every thing...

There is no sensor like you stated. Actually, when you keep open the fridge door, the cooling all will go out and hence thermostat sensor would not cut off, as required temp not reached inside the fridge.
So, the compressor would have run for long time without cut off. Due to this the overload protector trips the compressor. Remove power for 4 to 6 hrs. And then restart the fridge. But make sure you close the fridge door. Thanks.

Turns on...clicks every few minutes....never gets cold

It looks like the compresor is trying to start and goes off on overload ,it could be a bad relay or a bad compresor.Try first replacing the relay located on the side of the compresor under a black plastic cover(ALWAYS UNPLUGGED THE FRIDGE BEFORE DO ANY WORK) if that does not work you need to replace the compresor.
