Hello,

That usually means that a program that starts when Windows starts isnt functioning correctly, You can test it by clixking Start > Run > type Msconfig and press enter. After that click the startup tab. Here you will see programs that load when Windows starts.

If you recognize the program thats causing the issue, simply click the box to the left of the item to uncheck it and click OK. You will then be prompted to restart.

As the machine restarts, check to see if the issue has disappeared.

If so, great. Be aware that you that you will be prompted with a "System Configuration Utility" dialog that lets you know you are using Msconfig. If you don't want to be warned of this, click the box that says "Dont show this message..." and click OK.

If not, run Msconfig again, and uncheck the next suspicious program and repeat the process until the problem disappears.

Below is a link with information on using Msconfig. It also has other links that include information of some of the programs that you might see in the startup window of Msconfig.

http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html

NOTE:
There's is a "Disable all" button under the startup tab. But I wouldn't suggest using that initially. It is better to uncheck them one at a time so you can see what is causing the issue.

Thanks

    Hello,

Once you get rid if the problem file, you can run msconfig again and choose Normal Mode and click OK. You will be prompted to restart. This will cause it to load any additional programs that started previously.

    Thanks

Error message "NTLDR is compressed" how to fix it

When NTLDR is missing from your operating system it means that there is a problem with your boot loader, a bootstrap process that begins when you turn on the computer. A missing NTLDR means that your computer cannot boot to the operating system. This issue is only a problem on computers running Windows XP or previous operating systems as Windows 7 and Vista don't utilize NTLDR. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD ROM First verify that no Floppy Diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette. Fixing the missing NTLDR is relatively easy so long as you have your installation disc.
Locate your Windows XP/2000 installation disc and place it in your CD/DVD ROM drive. If you don't have this disk, then you cannot proceed further. Restart your computer. When the computer restarts press any key on your keyboard when you are prompted, "Press any key to enter setup." Most computers are configured to boot to another device other than a hard drive. Since the Windows XP/2000 installation disk is bootable, you should see the prompt. However, if you don't see the prompt you may need to change your boot priority in your BIOS. To do so, enter the system BIOS by following the onscreen instructions upon startup. Then navigate to the Boot Priority menu and modify another device, such as a CD-ROM to boot prior to the hard drive. Then reboot your computer. After you have pressed any key, the Windows XP/2000 setup screen will appear. After loading, press the "R" key to repair the Windows installation. The screen will appear black. The computer requests which installation you would like to log in. Generally speaking, press "1" and "Enter." If you have more than one hard drive or more than one partition, the procedure may be different. You must know which hard drive or partition your Windows operating system is installed in. You are subsequently prompted for a password. If you haven't set up one up, you can just leave the query blank and press "Enter." The phrase "c:\WINDOWS>" and a blinking cursor subsequently appear. Type "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows" (without quotes), where "D" is the letter of your CD/DVD ROM drive (your optical drive may be different, especially if you have more than one). Eject the CD from the drive and type "Exit" (without quotes) to restart your computer. The NTLDR file will be copied from the installation disc to your hard drive.

or If you've started your Windows XP computer and you see an error message to the effect that the "NTLDR" file is missing or corrupted, you've probably also noticed that the computer refuses to boot any further. This is because the NTLDR file is an integral part of the boot process and needs to be restored before the boot process can proceed normally.

Insert your Windows XP disc into your computer. Restart the computer and press any key on your keyboard when the message prompting you to do so appears. Press the "R" key to open the Recovery Console and then press "1" and "Enter" in order to select your operating system. Type in your Administrator password (if needed) and press "Enter." Type "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\" and press "Enter" and then type "copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\" and press "Enter." Restart your computer and let it boot up normally. Since the NTLDR is freshly restored, the computer boots up properly. Hope this helps.

Emachines T4010 won't start up, says image checksum, and that an image is corrupted

Receiving a bad image checksum error message when upgrading a computer to Windows XP means that a Windows system file such as user32.dll is damaged. This error occurs when any damaged system file is encountered that isn't overwritten during Setup. The repair process for this error involves voiding the damaged dynamic link library file from the DOS command line prompt and replacing it with a new copy from the Windows XP disk.

Insert a clean Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME) or Microsoft Windows 98 Edition startup disk into the computer, and hold the reset button on the front of the computer until the system commences rebooting. Navigate the Windows startup menu with the keyboard's directional keys and select 'Start Computer with CD-ROM Support'. Hit "Enter" to continue. Write down your CD-ROM's drive letter on a piece of paper. At the command prompt, type "Drive:" without quotes (Drive should be replaced with the drive letter on which Windows is installed), and press "Enter." Type "cd windows\system32" without quotes, and press "Enter." Type "ren user32.dll user32.old" without quotes and again press "Enter." This renames your damaged user32.dll file so it is not recognized by the system, but still physically exists as a backup if needed in the future. Eject the Windows ME or 98 disk, and insert the Windows XP disk. At the command prompt, type "extract CDROMDrive:\i386\user32.dl_ Drive:\windows\system32\user32.dll" without quotes, replacing CDROMDrive with the CD-ROM's drive letter that you made a note of earlier, and replacing Drive with the system's drive letter on which Windows is installed. Hit "Enter" to execute the command. This process extracts a new copy of the user32.dll file to your hard disk, from the Windows XP CD. The new file will be found in the Windows/System32 directory. Restart the system by holding the reset button on the front of the tower until reboot commences.

My desktop sceen shows Blue screen with error memory dump contect ur hardware vender

Try running the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I created an Excel program and somehow hit something that caused it to become a "read only" file that I cannot change nor add to. How did it happen, and how do I remove the "read only"...

Here are the steps on how you can make it a read/write file:

  1. Make sure that the file is not open in Excel.
  2. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. In the Exploring window, open the drive or folder that contains the file.
  4. Click the file name.
  5. On the File menu, click Properties.
  6. Click the General tab.
  7. Clear the Read-only check box.

Hope this helps!
