MFC-7840w printer, how do i take it off sleep mode?

  • The control panel features a series of buttons as well as an LED "Status" screen.

  • Press the "MENU" button. Go to INITIAL SETUP, select "FAX" select "RECEIVE MODE" change to F/T
  • If you are using the Brother on a line by itself, set it to "Fax." If you are using the Brother on a line that also shares a telephone, set it to "Fax/Telephone." If you are using the Brother IntelliFax along with ananswering machine, set it to "TAD." Once you set your IntelliFax to the appropriate mode, the unit will leave "Sleep" mode and be ready for use.
  • Select "GENERAL SETUP" go to "ECOLOGY" and #2 is SLEEP TIME = adjust to 60 sec. This keeps the machine from becoming idle/sleep mode for a longer period.

How do I put this on sleep mode for faxes, so that I do not receive faxes over night and then it resumes in the morning?

This model does not have a sleep feature. Set it to manual to not receive faxes or unplug the phone cord.

Yes, press <Aditional Functions> Custom Settings> Audible Tones> select On or Off for each tone. If you are refering to a copier equiped with the fax feature, the process is similar...just in a different area. Hope this helps.

Your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode function reduces power consumption while the machine is idle. You can adjust how long your Brother machine is idle (between 00 and 99 minutes) before Sleep Mode is initiated. Please note that the default setting is 00 minutes, and the timer automatically resets itself after the Brother machine receives a fax, receives data from your PC, or makes a copy. To adjust your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode setting, please follow these steps:

    1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 7 (Sleep Mode).

    2. Use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the fax machine is idle before Sleep Mode is initiated (00 to 99 minutes).

    3. Press the MENU/SET key to confirm your choice.

    4. Press the STOP/EXIT key to exit the menu.

NOTE: If you frequently print, copy, or fax, set the idle time long
enough to insure that you will not always have to wait for the Brother machine to warm up.
