This a "hang up"trouble. If your unit is not cover to warranty, you can do-it-yourself repair.Open the player, reheat the circuit board by using a hair dryer and avoid the plastic connector to be direct hit by blower, that it and it will work ,this is tested already for that kind of trouble.message whatever the result..

Hello,
Try to hard reset the device..Keep it unplugged for 30 mins or an hour and then plug it and try then..Also The problems looks like some problem on the board which might have occured due to overflow of current..So if possible call a service person to check the board for any burnt or short circuited Ic's etc..Hope this helps you!!..thank you..

Regards!!..

first of all leave the unit plugged off from wall power for one night. and then try powering it ON. see if the problem exists.
    if yes then proceed.

--->Try pressing the power on button on player and holding in in for over ten seconds. This will force the player to boot.(forced shut down and restart)

--->Go to Setup menu, then Maintenance, then select initialize. Tell me if
this works. All settings will go back to manufactured specs and memory
will be cleared. Firmware update will still stay.

There are no magic combination of keys to press

so if your unit is under warranty then send it for a replacement.

else take it to a repair shop.

    thank you

First things first, if its still covered by warranty have it checked or repaired for free by your dealer or manufacturer.

If there is a reset button in the back press that, it would seem like a software problem.

How do I fix the bobbin winder on the 155. It has stopped working completely.

Unable to provide advice without the make & model.

However, in the meantime, you can purchase a stand-alone bobbin winder at the local fabric store or online for ~$30. One brand is called "Sidewinder." Be sure to verify that it will work with your machine's bobbins as some bobbins do not fit!!!

FWIW, it is nice to have a separate bobbin winder so you don't have to stop in the middle of your project, remove the thread, wind a new bobbin, and then rethread the machine.

Toshiba 57HX81: Green works but Blue and Red seem to be out.

Do you still have reds? Is the image still clear though discolored? If so you ought to replace the blue bulb which has most likely failed. The part no for the 57HX81 model blue CRT bulb is TOSHIBA     23008753.

All i get is the welcome screen and no light by the standby button. it has power

If normal operation has the welcome screen dissapear after a few seconds followed by working properly, it appears the internal software is corrupt or buggy.  Try a power drain:
1. Unplug the product's power cable so the device is not grounded to the house. 2. Press and HOLD the product's own power button for 1 minute to drain the capacitors. 3. Plug the product back into a wall outlet and try to turn it on.
Note: This procedure works with battery operated devices as well so remove the batteries and hold down it's power button.  Electricity can remain in capacitors and on circuit boards enough to prevent normal functionality. By clearing the residue electricity, your product will have a fresh start and many times this will resolve a buggy or non-responsive device that appears to be dead.
If this doesn't resolve it, the Toshiba will require service for defective software.

Hey wingnutz,

If your HD-DVD player has been locking up after a recent firmware update, you may wish to attempt rebooting/resetting the unit before considering any kind of repair option.

First I would suggest seeing if you can enter the "Setup" menu from the "Welcome" screen. If you are able to do so, under the "Maintenance" option there should be a command called "Initialize." After selecting this command, you will need to turn the player off and unplug it for several minutes. This should cause the unit to reset.

If doing so does not resolve the problem, you may wish to then look for a pinhole reset button on the back or underside of the player. Typically players that have a reset button will return to their original factory settings when this button is depressed. Please keep in mind that not all HD-DVD player models will have such a feature, so you may wish to refer to your owner's manual documentation for more information.

Alternatively, many products (DVD players, computers, etc.) will have what is often referred to as a "soft reset." This is typically done by pressing and holding the power button down for 10 to 15 seconds.

Should your player still be stuck on the "Welcome" screen after trying all of these, you may need to contact Toshiba or a local repair technician for further assistance. Remember that if you are unsure where your local repair facility is, you may always obtain service and repairs by bringing your player into your local Best Buy™ store.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
