Question about Kenmore 53642 / 53644 Side by Side Refrigerator

Refrigerator. my refrigerator is 2 years old. not colling properly 1-side ,the air run good on frezer side , cool side not to good

    No air is coming out of the vent at the back top left hand side of the fridge....connects to the top of the freezer in the back so it seems air flows from freezer to fridge side and that is not working..no air at all.So how do I get to the system and trace where the air stops flowing. No air even blows out of the freezer at the top..bottom is ice cold with plenty of air flow. . ...bad fan? bad flap? Defrosted unit for 3days..but defrost system seems fine anyway. Air is ace cold coming out of the bottom of freezer.

    Where is the stug or frozen diffuser.All cold air seems to be dumping out of the bottom of the freezer when you open the freezer door. I have the Kenmore Coldspot 57282790 made in 7/97 side by side. I cleaned it out and brushed off the coils....in good shape but not cold enough in freezer, but fridge is only 51 dgrees...on coldest setting.

If you have determined that the evaporator fan in back of the freezer compartment is running, then you might have a stuck or broken air diffuser. The diffuser acts like a damper to divert air into the refrigerator compartment. Sometimes they jam or break due to frost buildup.

SOLUTION FOR SIDE BY SIDE kENMORE NOT COOL ENOUGH:

Unscrew lower back panel of freezer section with 6 phillips screws.

Pull-out panel by slipping a screwdriver in the botton to pop-out and expose the upper system fan.If fan is not working Ice will be built up on the coils, which explains cold air coming into freezer at the bottom.

Spin fan blades by hand and test to see if fan is frozen. If frozen the hand start should be enough for the fan to start working. If not, replace fan.
System should work properly after fan is restarted or replace, saving an expensive service call.

Hi Candi,

I don't know this model but most friges are the same,
Check on the bottom back, there should be a radiator with a small fan
installed.

If the fan is not working this maybe your problem,
It is not colling the gas.


You also may have a gas leak or the gas compressor is not working
or starting to work because of a faulty capcacitor.

There is a part called a defrost timer, it is usually the most likely culprit in these situations. Hope this helps

My freezer cools properly but my refrigerator is not staying cool .its kenmore and bought from sears 2004 $1000. side by side refrigerator


Quick temporary fix - defrost the freezer (inside frezer lower back) it is probably full of frost/ice - this prevents air flow and therefore no air enters fridge side. common failure due to bimetal defrost thermostat failure ($20) - replace this part for a permanent fix - also advisable to swap out the defrost timer at same time

Servis fridge / frezer not colling or freezing


i would firstly do a complete defrost- incase there has been a fault with the frost free system. if after a full defrost it runs ok then there was a fault somewhere in the defrost system including either defrost heater, cut out or possible jammed circulation fan.

FRIDGE THAWING


pull your refrig away from the wall and check to see if your compressor is running i'm willing to bet that the start relay is bad you will here a humming and then clicking noise approx every 3-5  mins. its a very easy repair get part number 8201786 from whirlpool it has detailed instructions and should only cost you 40-60 dollars for part.

Refrigerator side won't cool


its iced up and needs to be thawed. you can use a hair dryer and make it fast in say 2 hours. the freezer side is blocked from admitting cool air to the fridge side. your defrost timer may be defective or you had a real humid situation that caused it to ice up.

Frezer working fine but fridge not cooling


Mo, open the freezer door and look for the model tag. There should be a manufacture date on the tag. The product has a 2 year complete warranty, 5year parts and labor on the sealed system and 5-12 years parts only. The factory number is 800-222-7820 and maybe able to tell you when it was installed, They may walk you through a couple of items to tell you what was happening.

Frost in Freeze


Hi Frezer Frost.
It sounds like your defrost circuit in the refrigerator has gone south. This melts the ice off of the cooling coil in the freezer section every 8 - 10 hours of run time.
If you are old enough to remember the manual defrost refrigerators, that is why you had to defrost them occasionally. The ice layer on the coil acts as an insulator, preventing the coil from working properly.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works


Do you know if the compressor in the back is running? If you can check that out get back to me and we can go from there. Most times if the fan in the freezer is running the defrost timer is ok.
