Question about Dell Latitude C640 Notebook
Hi, I have the above laptop which has been running fine till it just shut down one day whilst in use.
I tried a reboot straight away but shut down on boot.
If the power cable is connected the charge light goes out and does no come back on for a few minutes.
Checked the cpu and reapplied some new thermal cement but this didnt cure it.
Any help appreciated. Thanx Bob.
This could be caused by a number of thing, bad battery, bad power supply, bad memory chip, bad processor, and a bad component on the motherboard. Start by checking the output of the power supply with an ohm meter. The output rating will be on the power supply or you can go by the input in the machine. Then try starting without the battery. Then remove the memory and try with one chip then the other. At this point, if the problem persists, you will need to take it for a professional diagnosis. They will be able to test the processor and motherboard to find the exact problem component, and tell you whether it's replaceable.
