Where do i buy drive belt FOR SONY CASSETTE DECK TC-K8B

Any spares shop can make a match but otherwise this is for the round or square belts only You can fit a round belt in place of the square type it does not matter. I had some reel to reel machines and in desperation I went to a Hydraulic cylinder and pump spares shop and got an "o" ring of the correct length and thickness Remember that the new belt must be SLIGHTLY shorter to give grip on the pulleys. I have several units cassette and open reel that I was forced to fit this type and some some are running now over ten years everyday

What is the difference between a cassette and an 8-track?

8 tracks are older, much bigger, and have a single reel that runs in one direction. it is more commonly used today in recording studios. A cassette is like a mini- 8 track, but it uses two reels, can go in both directions, and can fit more than 8 tracks on one tape. Also the cassette is magnetic

Error 02 - 574

Main code 2X : Mechanism control system error
574 Failed to detect the T reel FG during search.

This means the take up reel stopped rotating during forward search. It shut down assuming tape was spooling loose into mechanism. Could be just a faulty cassette tape. A common problem is also when labels have been placed in the wrong places on the cassettes, stopping the lid from opening fully and stopping the reel reaching the reel motor drive.Manually eject the tape and try another tape. If the fault continues, have a look for something in the way under the cassette such as post it notes, paper clips, torn labels etc.
Have you had the unit serviced since you got it?
Could be time to get it to a service centre for help.

I have just bought a Dictaphone express writer 1740. It rewinds and fast forward but does not play properly. It is in excellent condition. We are using micro cassettes. The manual said this machine can...

This unit takes mini cassettes, not micro. A common issue with the playback on this model is the rubber tire on the drive reel cracks, causing it not to turn. It probably needs to be replaced.

Tape is torn and I need to get it out of the cassette housing, splice the tape, then place in a new housing. Where can I get a repair kit??

Cat. No. 44-626 used to be available at Radio Shack but no more.

This might work..

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/geekslutz-forum/31114-cassette-repair-kit.html

"Splice the broken end to the take up reel of a newly bought cassette that you can open.
open the new cassette,
trash the interior
If you can't move the old reels to the new mechanism:
tape one side of the broken cassette's tape to the new take up reel
close the new cassette (do not open or break the old cassette if it's not already done)
insert a pencil into the gizmo on the take up reel on the new cassette,
reel up the old cassettes tape into the new cassette
re open the new cassette
splice the other end to the new cassette's gizmo
close the new cassette
record the contents to digital"

Cassette deck plays without cassette, makes clicking noise

The fault is that the reel drive of the deck is not picking up the tape and so to avoid the tape to entangle it rejects. Try to load a different cassete and see it this loads. If not you have a bad belt in your set. you will need to remove and change the belt. Also check for the reel drive to see if there is any slackness in taking up the reel. Since there are reel sensors that act when the reel pulse does not come on rotation of the reel, the set shifts to the other side and then ejects. Open and check this out and I am sure you can sort this out. Good day

I have a broken VHS cassette.

You can remove the 4 or 5 screws at the bottom of the tape, turn the tape over CAREFULLY pull the top off. If the tape pulled out of the end of 1 spool, you have to remove the clip in the tape hub, reinsert the tape and snap the clip back in. Holding the tape door open so as not to catch tape, put top back on and replace screws. Hope this helps.

Mini cassette tape is wrapped around one spool inside the casette

1). Remove the five screws from top half of cassette shell. If the cassette shell halves are glued together, very carefully split the shell with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Maneuver the screwdriver around the shell to break its seal. Avoid getting cut or damaging internal components of cassette.
2).Carefully lift off the top half of the cassette shell.
3). Pull the head if the tape from the left reel.
4). cut-off the damaged edge, and attached a peice of sctoth tape to the shining side of the tape, and leave about 1/2 inches of scotch tape beyond the head of the recording tape.
5). trim the sctoch tape using single edge of the sctoch tape razor or X-Acto knife to the same width as the recording tape.
6). carefully insert and tape the head of the recording tape to the right reel. and manually wind the tape till the recoding tape is flat to the front of the recoding pad.
7). carefully close the top shell, make sure not to pinch the tape. use your finguer trun the right reel, make sure the tape winds freely.
8). secured the top with screws.
