Try to swop the disc that you have for another one-it will very likely burn to the the replacement. Some discs are troublesome.

Hmmmm see try cleaning the temporary files which are stored ...I mean files ready to burn to dvd .. You can find them when u click dvd drive with out any disc in it.

Create a new user account and then remove all the burning software and then reinstall it.
If still doesnt work tough luck dear .. Reformat the hdd might help.

My atapi dvd a dh20a3p dvd writer keeps comming up with same error when i try to burn using nero the error is power calibration error how do i fix this and do i need to update the firmware as driver is...

I found the upgraded firmware for your drive here: http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=153

Disks have a test area on them where the drive can test write to calibrate laser power for the disk. This power calibration error means that this test write has failed for some reason. The most likely causes are bad media, a dead or dying drive, or a bad power supply. Try different media. If it is getting that error on the same drive with different media, check out your power supply fast!!! If it is an oem computer, they tend to use a cheap power supply that is just good enough to run the computer. If your power supply fails, it can other things in the computer. Download something that can monitor voltage. As these are not always accurate but its a starting point. Perhaps try monitoring voltage while you try a burn. You can also try reducing power usage (unhook usb/firewire devices, unplug power to extra hard drives etc. If it is testing with bad voltages and/or if reducing the amount of power fixes it, stop using the computer and replace the power supply fast before you have more damage to your computer.

Hope this helps

Dvd-r wont burn error message says "power calibration area error - medium error"....it used to work because i have burned many dvd -r sony discs. but all of a sudden it just quit i have been trying to fix...

Have you started a new batch of discs?
This error could you get when the drive and disc are not compatible.
So please look for new firmware for your drive or try another brand of discs.

Power Calibration error

powe calibration error reffers to lens laser power
in other words the laser doesn't have enough power to write CD/DVD at specified speed

try to clean the lens (there are special CD-s for that)
and try to burn the cd or DVD at slower speed

but slowly your cd writer is dying

My DVD Ram drive is not reading any CD/DVD

The most common reasons for a power calibration error is a dirty lens or bad media. Clean the lens with a short burst of cabbed air or carefully wipe it with a cotton swab.
Good luck.

i had a similar problem with my Matshita dvd drive by deleting a registry entry that had become corrupted i was able to write. before that all i could do was read discs.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/

try this link it could help you out.
i cannot remeber the precise location in the registry, but it has to do with the upper or lower filters.

My matshita uj-860s disc drive has stopped working

In my case, MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S did not want to write CD-R,-RW Verbatim using software NERO 8, but is easy to write their own software windows XP.
in the Log file was as follows:

Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

Power calibration error

whether

Invalid field in parameter
E: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S

ACTION! :)
Change in method of recording NERO 8 Burning mode: DAO (Disc-at-once) at Burning mode: TAO (Track-At-Once) all have established!
Simply drive MATSHITA was UNSUPPORTED software producers to write disks.
Updating the software to burn CDs, as is windows XP supports the recording and includes drivers for the drive! :)

Good luck!
