There's a slide switch on the end of the camera, near the USB socket. Make sure it's in the proper position. The flower position is for taking pictures of objects close to the camera, the mountain position is for other pictures.

Wont allow me to take pictures

The camera's firmware will need to be updated. You can sometimes get lucky enough to find a free download on the web. Others have to send in their camera's to the manufacture and they will repair it for $50

I have problems focusing my f8000sd fuji camera when zooming in on small things.IIf I try to zoom right in on a butterfly for example,it will not focus and I can't use macro and get closer in case it flies...

Use spot metering & focus when taking pictures of an object.
Set your camera to highest Megapixel setting, Only use max. optical zoom on the subject (do not use digital zoom) .U dont need to get close to object as you can edit/zoom/crop the picture using any photo software program afterwards .

Lines on screen and photos, too bright photos outside

Lines across your pictures or pictures too bright are due to the shutter not closing correctly or at all.
to check this- turn camera on, turn off flash, turn camera around and look into the lens. Adjust the zoom so that the shutter and internal lens comes up to the end of the lens and whatch as you take a picture. You should see the shutter close completely over the lens. If it doesn't move or does not close over completely then there is your problem.
If camera was dropped it could have jammed the shutter open or obstructed it in some way from closing completely.
camera will require repair/ service.
You may have some luck if you power up and down your camera numerous times before taking a picture. The action of the lens opening and closing may free the shutter.

Pictures are extremely bright

Over exposure due to the shutter not closing over the lens. try taking video and see if that comes out ok. Another way to test the theory is to put your camera into full optical zoom and turn the flash off so as not to blind yourself and turn the camera to face you and angle the lens so that you can see into it without reflection. now take a picture and watch the shutter closely. In full optical zoom it should bring your internal lens right up to the front end of the lens so that you can see it clearly( this would depend on your camera though). Does the shutter cover the lens completely? it should do. If it doesn't then something is sticking it or obstructing it.
The video is a good indication of a faulty shutter as this does not use it so should work ok.
Only way to solve it completely is to strip it down and clean it.

Close up shots won't auto focus.the lens trys to adjust but the final setting is out of focus. the camera works fine on subjects at least 2 feet away

try using the little throttle that is located just below your on/off switch. if you push that either up/down, it should help you manually focus your subject. It is actually a really fun feature to play around with.

Blury Display on FE140

It sounds like your lens's focus element is stuck. Given the events you describe it is possible that a grain of sand has worked its way into the focus motor's gearing and jammed it up. Normally the small motor moves the focus optic in and out to achieve proper focus, if its movement is limited or completely jammed you will experience blurry pictures. The camera will have to be disassembled and the sand cleaned out to restore normal function. There are repair providers you can find online who can work on your camera.
