Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on computer that has...

This problem occurs because Windows Vista cannot distinguish between ambiguous hard disks.

In versions of Microsoft Windows Setup that are earlier than Windows Vista Setup, hard disks are marked with distinct values to distinguish them. However, this method of distinguishing hard disks is no longer supported because of the potential for data corruption on hard disks.

Do you have more than one hard drive connected to your computer?

If you have two hard drives, remove the second hard drive and continue with the installation.

If that does not work, try to format the C: drive while installing the Vista operating system.

You need to select the "format" option from "advanced" within Vista installation.

Samsung m3 portable external hard drive not showing in my computer

Try going Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management (This is for Windows 7, the process might be a little different for other Windows versions).

With any luck you will see your 1TB partition on here. You can then right click on it and select 'delete volume' if necessary, and then format it. Make sure you are formatting the correct partition.

The issue for me was that Windows did not recognise the partition on the external, and therefore was not displaying it because it assumed it was data from an unrecognised filesystem, and therefore didn't want to mess with it.

i would remove hard drive if important data is on it and go to radioshack and buy an inclosure for it 25.00 cheaper online to make it a usb external harddrive. then plug it into any pc or laptop usb port and it will be local disk d then click on it and retrieve all your data the right click on that drive (kocal disk d and do a full format. then take it out of the enclosure and instal in in your pc and reload windows. Another way is to install the drive as a secondary drive to another pc

I can not access my computer after imminent failure message

> imminent failure message ... cannot access

Bad luck that the 'imminent' failure was _SO_ soon followed by _complete_ failure.

Buy a new disk-drive. Disconnect the old disk-drive.
Install Windows to the new disk-drive.
Reconnect the old disk-drive, as a 'slave' disk-drive, and hope that you can access the files on it, even though you could no longer 'boot' Windows from it.

I have a samsung cd r rw sw 240b installed (WinXP) and it plays/burns CDs & DVDs but won't burn data/video on DVDs. What to do?

find it hard to believe that this device will burn dvd's as it will only burn cd's you require a dvd writing device to burn and read dvd's data or video with 3rd party software such as nero or nti
