That's what I thought - I already said it is several years old (not under warranty). I just paid $9.95 for nothing!!

  • friesenb Jul 23, 2008

Where could I even get this fixed now - Toshiba has gone out of the PDA business.???

  • friesenb Jul 24, 2008

I have been advised to "get it fixed" - my Toshiba e405. It has colored lines only - no meaningful symbols visible.

This does not seem like an "expert" answer, and I don't think it's worth $9.99. How do I get my money back?

  • friesenb Jul 24, 2008

No, I only have colored lines on the display, I can't "tap" anything. This answer is not responsive.

  • friesenb Jul 24, 2008

No, I don't think it's the screen and I don't think it's the motherboard, because there is evidence that it is "syncing." I just can't see a display.

I suspect it is a video card or video chip - can't replace it myself.

Yes, I agree, it's probably time to buy a new PDA.

  • friesenb Jul 24, 2008

OK, I think my PDA is dead, then. It's not worth trying to replace the motherboard.

for cheaper deals look around ebay

    http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=e405+lc...

  • Ekse Jul 23, 2008

It may also be a problem in the mainboard if the screen is not faulty.

  • Ekse Jul 23, 2008

if you hear sound from the pda that would indicate that the screen is faulty, and replaceing the screen should solve the problem unless there is a fault in the motherboard.

seems the toshiba of yours doesn't cost much.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-e405-PDA-Poc...

not sure if its worth the 20-40 usd display replacement?

  • Ekse Jul 24, 2008

that ebay bidding will end in about a hour though so you need to hurry if you want that one, instead of replaceing the screen, which might not fix the problem if theres a fault in the mainboard.

  • Ekse Jul 24, 2008

Are you not able to see my solution?

  • Ekse Jul 24, 2008

The video is build into the motherboard and it can't be replaced you have to replace the whole motherboard.

  • Ekse Jul 28, 2008

If the screen is faulty you can order a replacement from ebay, from the links I have posted earlyer.

Sounds like the display ribbon cable is out of place .
The device must be taken apart and cable or connector fixed, or LCD display replaced.

Well, your PDA hardware is faulty, what do you expect this is not someting that you can fix adjusting settings, you really will have to take to a shop unless you want to try DIY at your risk.
If you want to do it yourself I can find tutorials for taking apart the PDA.
If you are not expert doing this I think you need to go to a repair shop.

Note , on your PDA video card or video chip are integrated on board. What is faulty is not the integrated video adapter, it is the LCD, it is the cable or the display itself.

    Ginko Jul 24, 2008

Before getting rid of your PDA ask price for repair at a local shop, the LCD is not an expensive part, and if it is the cable you pay repair only (about $60/$80). It may still be worth a go.

The screen was
tapped, but no correct
action was not
executed.
Touch screen
adjustment is incorrect.
Select , Settings,
System tab, Align
Screen to adjust the
touch screen. If the
screen alignment loses
calibration it may not
be possible to adjust
alignment using the
above method. In that
case, the Align Screen
command can be
executed by
simultaneously
pressing the power
button and scroll
button.

You can ask for a refund of your $9.95, if no viable solution is provided.

When my tv is powered on, it displays the device menu and continues scrolling through it, but will do NOTHING else. I've tried to reset, and nothing. The tv will not respond to the remote at all.

A suggestion here: If possible to remove front speaker grill and inspection plate that should be behind it---locate the bundle of wires that comes down from front keyboard with the buttons and follow it to the right and down---should be one or two plugs in-line--------disconnect them with the set off and power set back up with remote.

If the problem is gone you have a bad micro-switch on the front of the set------buttons on the keyboard there have priority over the remote---hence you cannot if the problem is there stop it with the remote or do anything for that matter.

Let me know what happens and I will suggest options.

Hi, I purchased the same model in November 2009. About 2 weeks ago a single horizontal line appeared. Each day another appeared until today when the video went out. Now it displays bands of vertical colored lines like a pastel colored rainbow. Did you find a solution to the problem?

Panasonic Viera TH-42PV60H displays vertical lines on left side of screen.\r\nThese lines flickers and changes colors. Initially was about 2cm wide and now it is about 4cm.

Either LCD transistor got moist or the video chipset got condensation. Keep TV on standby to dry it out. Unless there is also mechanical damage to the lcd screen on the edge..

Scanner problems Its stays on Auto-Scann and buttons dont work

Resetting or initializing the scanner may clear your problem.

To RESET the scanner:

- Turn the power OFF, then turn it ON again.
- Insert a pointed object (paper clip end, ballpoint pen tip, etc.) into the RESET opening on the side of the scanner, then press and release the button inside the opening.

If the above doesn't clear the problem, try the more drastic INITIALIZE procedure. NOTE: this step will erase all data that you have programmed into the scanner and restore it to original factory settings. To INITIALIZE the unit:

- Turn the scanner OFF then ON again. The scanner briefly displays the DSP boot version, then "Welcome to Digital Trunking" displays.
- Press "0". The scanner displays "System Tests Select Test Exits if no Key Press"
- Press "1". The scanner displays "Factory Unit Erase Memory ENTER if Yes CL to Exit"
- Press ENTER. The scanner displays "Initializing Clr Main Mem V-Scan is OK Please Wait"
- Do not power the scanner OFF until INITIALIZE is complete. When the process is complete the scanner will display "M0000" on the top line and "Bank 0 Ch 0" on the bottom line.

If neither of the above steps works for scanner I recommend that you take it to your nearest Radio shack and arrange certified repairs.

Need the manual for your scanner? You can download/print it here:

I just connected my new Kworld PC/TV converter. My tv now displays large vertical color lines. I,ve connected the yellow video cable, s-video cable and the red/green/blue cable. I have a new Toshiba...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a couple of checks:
  • verify that the P/N switch is set to the color system of your country. N (NTSC) for US and P for most of Euroope and Australia;
  • depending on how "old" the TV, the Screen Resolution of the Toshiba may have to be brought down to the lowest possible setting;
  • additionally, the Screen Refresh Rate may likewise need to be lowered say 60 Hz;
  • all of the connections you mentioned are video connections. However, only 1 should be used. You may have to experiment (again depending on the TV) which setting & connection would give you the best picture;
  • offhand, the component connection (if applicable, the red/green/blue cable) would give the best connection followed by S-Video and last would be yellow (composite).

Please postback results of initial checks.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

CRT Monitor Displays only a thin bright horizontal line

Vertical IC loose connection. Best is to reflux it or resolder. It is in internal circuitry inside the monitor commonly an upside single line IC.

And its a minor repair only. But I recommend it to be serviced by a qualified technician. Inside it are plenty of nasty voltages. It might caught you.
