Question about Kenwood KDC-715S

Manually opening a Kenwood motorized face

Hi. I have a Kenwood KDV-V7017. I'm having a problem with the cable that runs from the head unit to the D-Mask. So i've ordered a new cable, but due to the faulty cable, the face does not rotate open when I run power. Is there a way to manually open the faceplate by hand? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi if you pop off the top cover you should see a motor on the right hand side, with a flexi cable connected to it, if you unplug the Flrxi from the pcb, you can then use a pp3 (9v) type battery to power up the motor. this will be much esier than manually moving the gears.

be sure to remove the flexi first otherwise you WILL damage the motor driver.

Regards

Mark

I need the instruction manual for my kdcv7017 kenwood cd player

Kenwood has the manuals for many of their products available on their support web site: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Support/Car_Entertainment_Owners_Manuals/ . The direct link to the KDC-V7017 CD Receiver user manual is http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File/Global/Consumer/Manuals/KDCV7017.pdf . See the Kenwood site for the other available documentation.

I hope this helps.

Faceplate opens to remove the faceplate but there is no display?

you probably have a bad flexible cable (goes from the face to the main motherboard). unless you are good at desoldering and soldering, you may want to have it done by a professional.

Kenwood KRC-x858 stuck halfway between closed and open

have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable2_bing.gif is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.

Replace Flex-PCB in a Kenwood KDC-ps909

Don't remember but I think you need "Keys" a couple of funny shaped forks to press in the sides of the head unit...Frankly, if the PCB cable is bad (and you have one). Why not contact a local car audio dealer that sells Kenwood?
Good Luck

Alot, of the radios have a common problem with the connection from the radio's detachable face. What happens is corrosion builds up on the connectors between the pin and the connector itself. Sometimes you can clean it off with a small file. Also, some KENWOODS with the motorized face are known to have a problem with the ribbon cable connecting the face plate to the main board. The last time I repaired one I called KENWOOD and aquired the cable for about 65 dollars, what the problem is, is the cable is wrapped around a plastic white spindel with a high tension spring and places alot of pressure on the cable from the wear and tear of the face opening and it will cause strange problems such as: turning on and off, some buttons working while others don't, and the display partially turning on and off.

In addition, sometimes the face open and close switches go bad, but I've never had to replace them yet. .

Kenwood KDC-715s problem.

the kenwoods with the motorized face platesdevelop one problem with time. the flexable ribbon cable between the main unit & the face plate. as the face open & closes, over time wares out the cable. problem consists of face plate not opening/closing, display missing & and/or some or all buttons not working. note these can also be intermittent problems. typically the part number is located on the cable itself on the side where it pluggs into the main board. since you have a service manual, you should verify it in the manual. good luck.
