Kenmore 106 56666500 not staying cold intermittantly?Does this sound like a defrost thermostat problem?

Look into the freezer and at the rear wall does it have frost building like the photo HERE If yes you will need to manually defrost the freezer with a hair drier or by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and closing the door. Remove the rear wall of your freezer and see if the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat are good. This is the defrost heater part number=> 2323198 Defrost Heater Assembly The defrost thermostat part number is 2319914 Defrost Thermostat If both test OK the next part is found inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel=> 2313172 Main Control Board I am here to answer any questions you have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Where is the defrost timer in a kenmore elite model 10654602300

I am pretty sure the defrost timer is built into the 8201528 Temperature Control Board

If you have questions about the defrost control plese call Repair Clinic at 1-800-269-2609, 7 a.m. to midnight ET, 7 days a week They will be glad to answer any questions you may have. As for forcing defrost on your model I am still searching for a Service Manual that covers your model. If you suspect a defrost error on this model I would check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat before changing the 8201528 Temperature Control Board Here is a link to the 106.54602300 User Manual I do know that your model is made by Whirlpool and sold to Sears. You can find the parts breakdown for your model HERE

We have a Whirlpool model ED5shaxmb10 that the freezer is working fine and the ice maker works but the fridge portion is not as cool as it should be, it is only 42 degrees at the highest setting

You most likely a defrost problem. Look into the back of the freezer and see if you have frost building on the rear panel like in the photo=> HERE

The most likely part that will need replaced is the=> W10351625 Defrost Control Board

The next most likely parts that may be defective are the=> 2323198 Defrost Heater Assembly

and the=> W10225581 Defrost Thermostat

Like I said the defrost control board is the most likely part to fail and cause defrost to stop working. The defrost control can be found behind the control panel inside the fresh food section just above the top shelf. I am here to anser any more questions should you need answers, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a Hotpoint hss251fmd and the freezer and refrigerator are getting warm at the top. the bottom and the back are cold. The freezer Is cold but not freezing everything. There's alot of frost inside...

Sounds like defrost cycle has been altered. Look into back of freezer and see if a layer of frost is building. If yes then unplug and place items from freezer into an ice chest or another freezer. Remove the panel that showed the frost layer and defrost the evaporator coils with a hair drier Examine the WR51X10055 Defrost Heater and test if you cannot see burn marks HERE It does not hurt to also change the WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat Instructions on replacing the defrost thermostat are also on the same page. Here is a=> Service Manual

My whirlpool ed5fgexss00 wont get cold

Look at rear wall inside the back of the freezer and see if a frost line is building on rear wall. I have a feeling your freezer is not defrosting properly and not sure exactly what number you model has but checking the defrost timer Click Here=> ED5FTGXKQ00 Controls is where I would begin.We will need to run a couple test to make sure your=> 2323198 Heating Element and Defrost Thermostat=> 2321799 Defrost Thermostat are working properly.Testing heating element is also shown on same page above.Try turning the defrost timer clockwise slowly until refrigerator compressor stops running. This will place the freezer in manual defrost. Then tell me if once you do this if freezer begins defrost. If yes then the defrost timer=> 482493 Defrost Timer is at fault. If stays in defrost simply turn again until compressor restarts again. After doing this I will want you to watch this how to replace defrost heater=> Here I know this may be a little confusing but defrosting manually will help you see which parts may be needed. I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Part of your message was missing but I do see that you did not mention the defrost thermostat=> 12001937 Defrost Thermostat
Chec for any loose wire or burned electrical connections and remember that the defrost thermostat is designed to be on while below freezing temperatures and once the temperaytures reach 50 degrees F the contacts in the defrost thermostat open to prevent the freezer from getting stuck in the defrost cycle for too long and also is a safety feature. Test the defrost thermostat with a OHM Meter while freezing.. Back wall of freezer frosts over

Under that panel is the evaporation compartment Every 6 hours or so the evap needs to be defrosted to prevent ice from building up and blocking the flow of air to the fresh food compartment and basically bringing to a halt any kind of cold air going into the fresh food section. The ice does not form immediately bit takes weeks to get a buildup. The most likely problem is gonna be a bad defrost heater or defrost terminator thermostat. The defrost lasts for 21 mins. The heater needs to be turned off when the temp reaches 50f. The termination thermostat does that job. One of them 2 is bad. OR the defrost timer has died on older models and the auto defrost control has not kicked in due to bad control board or faulty defrost sensor. This was generalization of how it works. Post a model number for a specific answer.
