Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hi, I have hot water coming through the cold water taps in the house, there is a check valve on the cold water return side of the water heater. could this be the problem? The cold water line feeding the hot water tank is also hot, could there be a problem with the tank as well. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

How can I increase the hot water pressure in my home?

Cold water pressure is what give you your hot water pressure so they should be equal but if you have a restriction on the hot side such as a valve not opening on the hot side or not opening all the way then you will have less pressure or the pipe work on the hot side is not proper. Hard to say but check the valve on top of the hot water heater

Got cold water in cold water tap but no water in hot water tap, why?

Did you check the turn valve under the sink. It's kind of similar to a water hose spigot on the outside of a house. If it's off you'll have to turn it counter clockwise to allow for water to flow to the faucet head. Also check the pipes by the hot water heater and make sure the valve is opened. Just follow the pipes coming in and out of the heater to find them.

Sounds like a plumbing problem.

Since no tap gets hot water, chances are good the problem lies in the hot water pipes between the water heater to the first Tee.
Look for sediment lodged in water heater hot water pipe.
Or sediment lodged in elbow or Tee.

Other problems can be in play.
Faulty check valve or mixing valve if these are installed.
Faulty recirculation system if this is installed.
Also crossover at single-handled faucet where the cartridge is bad and lets the cold water flow into hot water pipe whenever another faucet is turned on. If you are getting cold water out the hot tap, and you know the hot water heater has hot water, then crossover is suspect > in addition to sediment blockage at hot water heater.

Only about a cup of hot water will come out, then it gets cold.

You need to check 2 things. First, go outside and carefully open pressure relief valve at top of tank,(careful in case hot water spurts out) and make sure there is water in it. Second, look at back of tank inside RV and check your by-pass valves(s) for proper positioning. Cold water enters the water heater at the bottom fitting, so that valve has to be open, as well as leaves water heater at hot fitting at top of tank (the highest fitting) so that valve as well needs to be open. Any valves that may be in between those 2 water lines need to be closed. I am assuming that the heater starts runs, shuts down etc, just not running any hot water through hot side of taps, correct?

No water pressure

Check all valves are open, cold in bottom, pushes hot out top, and if cold at tap is doing same, take aerator off tap and see what happens. Is same thing happening at all taps?

No water coming out of carver cascade water heater

is the cold side hooked to the cold side if not you will be feeding the unit backwars making it to where the cold is just comming across the top of the tank, check the dip tube also, this makes the cold water go to the bottom and push the hot out of its outlet,, how many faucets are involved, if just one might want to check the cartridge to make sure it is working properly

Cold water tap not working, house heating not as strong.

Okay let's trouble shoot this problem. The Hot water issue may just be that your Temp. control is not set as high as it was before it was replaced. Find the control on the water heater and check the setting. You can adjust it hotter from there, but it is not recomended to set it all the way to HOT. Just increase it at small adjustments and see if the water gets hotter. The Cold Water Tap issue.....Turn off the Cold and Hot water supply lines to the faucet. Remove the Cold water tap. VERY SLOWLY TURN ON THE COLD WATER SUPPLY and see if you get water coming out of the line. If you get water, then your line is okay. Inspect the valve to see if there is any debris in or on it. Clean and reinstall both taps and turn back on the water. It should work. Now if you turn the water on SLOWLY when the Cold water tap is removed, and no water comes out, Then you know you have an issue with the line going to the cold water side. (Frozen Line, Debris in supply line valve, Broken or Leaking Water Line) I hope this assists you........Joe
