Some options:

-- Try to fish it out with a coat hanger with a crook on the end.

-- Buy a tool from Pep Boys (or the like) made for picking up bolts in hard to get places -- it has "grabbers" on the end of a flexible cable -- the grabbers are manipulated by a button on the top end of the cable.

-- Remove the back of the washer and take the vent housing off (a total last resort).

-- There are other options but mostly similar to above concepts.

I'm sorry to hear that a sock fell into your lint screen chute and I would like to assist you. Be sure to unplug the dryer prior to servicing it! Do not run the dryer until you are able to remove the sock! There are two ways to do this.

I ran the dryer without the lint screen and am now 'missing' some socks. The dryer makes a rumbling noise. How do I get the socks out and did I break something

you better inspect inside the exhaust vent tubes for the socks. You did not break anything but they might start on fire later. You to take off the back of the dryer to take the vents apart.

Error code CL on Kenmore Dryer

The "Check lint screen" light is just a reminder to check the and clean the lint screen before or after each load. There is not a sensor that will detect if it's clean or dirty, it's just a reminder. The "Check lint screen" should turn off as soon as the dryer is started. If it never turns off then the control board would need to be replaced in order for the check lint screen reminder to turn off, however the check ling screen reminder light staying on will not effect the operation of the dryer.
Here is the control board to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return.

I have a wdr1242 washer dryer the dryer seems to take forever to dry clothes sometimes 2 hours or more even for just half a dozen socks

If your dryer is still heating up; Check the dryer vent hose, also check down inside where the lint screen goes. If no lint is obstructing there, check the exterior dryer vent. Sometimes you have a screen to keep birds and rodents out of there, and may become clogged with lint. If no screen, check inside the flap, maybe someone moved in, or dryer lint is clogging up your exterior vent.

Takes extra time to dry the clothes.

You may need to clean out your lint trap. Not just the part that you pull out. I'm talking about the entire tunnel. Even though we empty the lint trap regularly there's a lot that gets left behind and over time can become a fire hazard. Your arms and hands cannot reach everywhere in there. For this you can attach an old sock or rag to a coat hanger that has been opened up. Go down in there a couple of times with it. You'll be surprised at how much stuff comes out. To further help this problem you can also pull dryer out and check that the vent hose in back is clear and free of debris. Cleaning the trap screen (the part you pull out to empty the lint) with HOT water occasionally will also clear residue that has built up from using dryer sheets. Over time that residue will make those tiny screen holes smaller & smaller & smaller. All of this can affect your dryer's performance.

I hope this info was helpful to you. Good luck!

Sock fell down lint vent and daughter turned on dryer

Turn off you power to the dryer and then,
You could run a coat hanger straightened out with a hook bent on the end of it into the lint vent at try to hook the sock.
But probably you will have to remove the back to follow the lint vent.
You may try to remove the vent hose and run the straightened coat hanger in there to try and remove the sock.
Hope this helps

A sock fell in the vent of my whirlpool dryer

If you mean the lint trap, try this: Unplug the dryer. With a dryer brush (~$10.00 @ Lowe's/similar), bend to approximate the curvature of your cavity and try to retrieve. If this doesn't work, slide/scoot the dryer out and remove the venting duct. Carry outside and dump. If no sock there, look into the dryer exhaust (where the duct connects). Use the brush again to retrieve said sock (and generally clean as you go, as it never hurts). Also look at your vent where your dryer exhaust passes through the wall, clean as you go..... This should get you back up and running.

A sock fell into the lint resevoir; how do I remove it?

If your dryer is the model you have this listed under (lint filter on the top panel), then retrieving something stuck in the vent is pretty simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel. The dryer exhaust vent is located on the left hand side (as viewed from the rear).

2. Remove the screws that hold the vent in place and remove. NOTE: Make sure you remove the two screws located on the top panel as well. The entire exhaust vent will come out.

If this is not how your dryer is configured, please post back with your correct model number. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
