I suppose it makes clicking noise before it turns off? If yes then remove the back cover of the tv and have a look at the power supply board. See if you can find capacitors that looki like this http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/8481/capacitors3croppedresiz.jpg
Ok so you have the standby voltage after it shuts off? In that case I would examine the board for shorts as I think that the short-protect circuit is activating. Remove the power board from the tv and turn it over. Shorts can usually be visually identified by means of brown spots near the solder joints. Even though it does not sound like a power supply board issue to me, its worth confirming. Also this tv has LED diagnostics. Certain LEDs on the main board will come on depending on the source of the fault if the self-test can detect the source of the problem. If you see any of them on after the set goes off, mark the location(ex:LED 405) and let me know
Ok. Let me look up the service manual so that I can tell you what that means.
That means its most likely to be the main A/V board itself thats fauly. I just looked up my collection and found that I have no service manual for this tv. However I found a source online you can get it from. Download it , upload it to mediafire.com and get me the link to the file so that we can confirm and attempt a component level repair instead of swapping the entire board.

Finally! Alright I got the file but its already 11Pm here in India and I am about to log off. Can I get back to you in the morning?
THanks. I will reply first thing in the morning

This is a classic switchmode power supply problem. The protection circuitry inside the SMPSU, has sensed a severe potential problem, and is shutting of the set, down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both.
This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, (This set should be removed from the Power),
What is happening is the internal "Fault" that is causing the Protection Circuitry , to detect the problem and attempt to shut down the set, keeps restarting the set, because as soon as it shuts down, the "Faulty" component(s) cool down?, and the "Fault" ostensibly "Clears" so the PSU starts up again, only for the component(s) to heat up, whatever, again and fail, so it shuts down, and if left unattended, this would continue on until the part eventually failed. As related this is called a "Hic-upping Power Supply". Any fault that involves the power supply is usually quite serious, and needs a professional, usually, unless one is familiar with servicing current day, televisions.
And in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center. Now, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their "Local" or a, "Head Office" Sharp, in your case. Ask them, for a referral to an authorised servicing center, where you ask for a "Quote". Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement.
The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free. There are many, many, many reasons that display this symptom, one must work through the troubleshooting steps to isolate and identify, the Cause and repair that and any damage done.

thanks for your reply, I am aware that it hangs together in such .. but I had hoped that there was one at fixya who had detailed knowledge of this particular TV, it's actually there for me every month to pay for some useful info on just the most common defects,,, nevermind then I must look elsewhere on the Web
no clicking noise ,and all outputs at the power board are instand 5v stb,,,only 5 sec 12v and 60v at the inv board ,,2x13,5 v to the main board and 12v to the screen board then the red flasing
3 led at the main board are flasing for some time D2002 ,D9102 and D9101
the power board is as new at the back site, no brown spots ,and the caps are also ok,!
I got the manual and circut but I can not find out to upload it ,,I have to try again in the morning
now the file is uploaded to mediafire.com .. can you se it there?
