Question about PNY 2GB microSD Memory Card

4 Answers

Computer is not reading my Micro SD, but phone is reading..

I inserted the Micro SD into the Adapter, then I put the adapter into the computer slot, and the computer shows it's in, but every time either freezes up or says "Please insert a disc into SD Card (F:)." I just bought it yesterday, so maybe I am doing something completely wrong. It works in my Cell phone which is a T-Mobile Nokia 6086 just fine, but I want to use the card on my computer.

Please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time.

Well, it is a 2gb Micro SD, and I just reformatted it, and the same thing is still happening. I am wondering if there is some other kind of software to read the card other than just the "My Computer" application that comes with the computer. If there isn't than what is my problem?

  • LukeF31 Jul 23, 2008

I checked it in my upstairs printer, computer, and in my Nintendo Wii, and the other computer doesn't read it at all. The Wii says something like Can't read SD card, and the printer says error. But it's weird that it works in the phone. I've tried 2 different adapters for the card as well. It could be that I'm using an over 1gb card, in which case I will just use the card for extra picture and video storage on my phone, but I'd appreciate it if I could download them off of the computer.

What size is the SD card in GBs? If it is larger than 2GB (4 or 8) do you have a SDHC card reader?
Also try formating the card first in the phone and then using it. Using it straight out of the package, while able to be written, my have difficultly with other devices reading the data.

SD card reader software is incorporated in service pack 2. If the micro card works ok it may be the adapter is at fault. Have you checked on a different computer to see if it still malfunctions?

I recently had a phone exchanged for the identical phone. (nokia 6086 flip phone) When I tried to see my photos on my new phone from my micro SD card it would not read it and said "Card not formatted, Operation failed". Now it will not see it on my new phone either. What do I do.

There are card readers out there that have trouble reading memory cards greater than 1 gb. You might want to replace your card reader with a newer model.

How to reset the password memory card

Mini SD cards, or MicroSD cards, are used in digital cameras and portable media players to house digital media files.

MicroSD cards can house anything from 2GB to 32GB of information.
A write-protection feature gives the owner the ability to lock the MicroSD card to keep their files secure.

If you have a MicroSD card that is write-protected, you can un-write-protect it with a flip of a switch.
Insert your MicroSD card into the adapter that came with it.
Put the data side of the MicroSD card into the data side of the adapter.

Look for the write-protection switch on the left side of the SD adapter.
Flip the switch to the side that reads "Off."

Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter and replace it in the device you were using it with.

or you might

Feel along the lower right and left sides of the Micro SD card to find out if it has a built in write protection switch.

Move the switch over to the "On" position to turn on the write protection feature.
Check the front ports on your computer and see if it already has a built in card reading unit.

Purchase an external card reader that plugs into a USB port if your computer does not already have an internal card reader (see below).

Plug the card reader into any open USB port on the computer.
Power on the computer and let the operating system finish loading.

Insert the card into the Micro SD slot on the card reader.
Wait for a new window to appear that will ask what action you want to take with the Micro SD card.

Click on the link that says "Open a folder to view files."
Right-click on a file if there is just one specific file you want to enable write protection for.

Click on the "Properties" link from the menu that will pop up.
Navigate to the "General" tab.

Click on the box marked as "Read Only" and then close the Properties window.
Close the window and then double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop if you want to enable write protection for every file on the Micro SD card.

Right-click on the name of your Micro SD card in the list of computer drives.
Click on "OK" and then close the window.

Click on "Properties" and then navigate to the "Security" tab.
Scroll down to the heading labeled as "Permissions."

Click on "Deny" under the "Write" section.

Slide the switch on the left-hand side of the SD card. If the switch is broken, proceed to Step 2.

Affix a small piece of tape or paper to the top half of the gap where the slider should be. Do not permanently affix the paper as of yet. 3

Try the card in your computer, using the USB converter stick.
If the items on the SD card are available, copy them to your computer as a precaution.
If that did not solve the problem, proceed to Step 4. 4

Remove the tape or paper and reattach it to the other side of the gap if you mistakenly attached it to the wrong side.
If you are actually trying to unlock a micro or mini SD card, proceed to Step 5. 5

Toggle the switch on the left side of your SD Adapter if you are trying to unlock a micro or mini SD card.

Micro and mini cards do not have switches.
Instead, insert a micro or mini card into an unlocked SD Adapter to work with stored data.

SD Adapters look very much like SD cards and the switch works the same way.

Where do I insert my microSD memory card or does my computer have a slot for it?

Here are the ways for you to insert your microSD to your computer

1. Use "memory card reader" (this is probably the best way)
find the slot that says "micro sd" that's where youre going to insert the microSD

2. Use the internal memory card reader of your pc ( if your computer has it)
it is located in front of your desktop. The find the slot that says "micro sd" and insert it.

How do you put your micro sd card in the computer?

if theres a slot for an sd card on your computer you need a micro sd card adapter. if it doesnt have an sd card slot you need to buy a usb memory card reader (making sure it takes a micro sd card first)

both are widely available in supermarkets/electrical outlets or on ebay/amazon/play etc and are very inexpensive.

(micro sd adapter)

(memory card reader)

Where do u put a 8gb sandisk for my samsung phone at in my HP

The most common place on an HP is in one of 2 areas...

Either on the left hand side of the computer (I am assuming this is a laptop) or right smack in the middle. Both obviously under the keyboard (located around the outer edge, not literally 'under the keyboard').

This is also taking into consideration that you have an adapter for the microSD. This adapter makes it so the laptop can see and allow the microSD to be read, as the actual interface on laptops is the SD sized media "only".

Desktops are similarly adapted as well. Most full/all in one adapters are located in the front of the computer tower (or on the top at an angle facing you). Where there may be a difference is in the that "some" of these AIO adapters actually do have a microSD slot. Its usually located just under the LED that flashes 'on' when a memory medium is inserted. This however isn't the case with older AIO readers as they will have to have the micro to SD adapter to be read in them as well.

Hope this helped...

It doesnt work when i insert the card with my micro memory card and asks for a disk

Hi likkle_miss_,

The Micro adapter has no memory in it. It is just an adapter to use so you can plug your Micro SD memory card into a larger (SD) slot. The SD Micro memory card needs to be inserted into the adapter.

I dont know where to put this

Hi, First insert the micro SD into its adapter which resembles a SD card itself but has a small opening at the bottom to insert the micro SD. The adapter should not b locked while inserting or removin the micro SD. Now insert the adapter in the card readers slot which should be connected to a PC via a USB. If its a card reader then insert the adapter with microSD in the right side top corner of the card reader with the adapters copper pins facing down. OR if u already have slots in ur CPU to insert the SD card install it there, Now transfer files to ur card happily. NOTE: Rename ur device so that next time when u plug it in the adpter n connect it to PC, u wont get confused. Just right Click on the drive icon in ur PC n select rename n just giv any name as u lik. Rate he soln dude Bye..........!

Micro SD 2 GB just stopped working

The PIC or EEPROM inside these cards may not be working. I guess you best bet is to buy a new one try Kingston brand or go with another Sandisk.
