Using Gmail as your Universal Inbox


Nowadays most people have more than one email account. If one of yours is a Gmail account, you can use it as your primary inbox to check all your POP3 accounts in your Gmail browser window. But do remember that you can check only other POP3 accounts only. You won’t be able to check Yahoo mail, Windows Live Hotmail, or other such web mail accounts. Also, not all POP3 servers work with Gmail.
Here is what you need to do. Open your Gmail account and click Settings-Accounts. In the ‘Get mail from other accounts‘ section, click Add another mail account. Enter the email address of the account you want to add, and click Next Step.
Enter your username, password and POP3 server. If you want to continue to access the account through a mail client or through the ISP’s own Web interface, in addition to picking up and sending mail in your Gmail account, check Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server. This allows you to read the mail in Gmail, but the mail will remain on the ISP’s server so that you can download it with your standard mail program or read it through the account’s own Web interface. On the other hand, if you plan on accessing the mail for the address only through your Gmail account, you can leave the box unchecked.
Next, check Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail to keep mail snoops at bay. In some instances a POP3 account may not work with an SSL connection: if that is the case, you will have to leave this box unchecked.
If you want all of your incoming messages from the account to carry a label, such as the name of the account, select Label incoming messages. In Gmail, a label works much as a folder does. You can view all mail that carries the same label by clicking the label. Gmail automatically creates a label for the address of the new account. You can select a different label or create a new one by choosing the appropriate entry from the drop-down list. Another option is to have messages bypass your inbox and go straight to your Gmail archive. This would be a good choice if you want to use Gmail primarily for searching through mail. When you’ve made all your selections, click Add Account.
You can compose mail in Gmail and have it appear to the recipient as if it were from the account you just added. When a message appears asking whether you want to create a custom From address, click Yes and follow the instructions.
Gmail will check your account, and any mail sent to either address will appear in your Gmail inbox. To stop Gmail from checking the mail, click Settings-Accounts and choose delete next to the account.

My new email address is yahoo.com when i sign in it goes straight to @ the server i cant recieve or send emails.


There is a 24 to 48 hour waiting period now with all new yahoo mail accounts. So you may have to wait a day or two before you can use it. Sucks I know...

I changed my e-mail address and now it won't let me in to facebook. I have tried to re-confirm but it won't accept my password which I did not change. I tried copying/pasting, etc. nothing worked. Please...


Facebook has settings it uses (that YOU set it up with) to confirm any changes to your account.

Any time you change something on Facebook, it will confirm that YOU are the proper owner of the account by sending a CONFIRM email to (the email address you set it up with.) You would need to CONFIRM this email (your old email address?) before any changes take place.

If you changed your email you should have registered this change in your Facebook account settings FIRST.

Try logging in to Facebook with your old account settings (email/password), then go straight to changing your default email contact address (this is not effective until it receives a REPLY from this NEW email account, so it can verify that the NEW account is actually valid.)
THEN Facebook will have finalized your change.

When I am sending emails through windows mail, I have to type full email address everytime, it is not picking up from contacts database (address book)


hi

well first of all you need to create a back up of all your address book on your computer on a csv code .
you can do this by clicking on to file and then click on import and export address book .
try to save the back up address book on desktop .
then delete all the address book from windows mail .
once you have done that then open up your windows mail on your computer and then go click on to file and then go to import address book click on to it and try to paste the address book from desktop .
and while doing this also try to create a new profile on your windows mail .

You tell me to use my email address as my password but when I do, it rejects phillman@verizon.net, telling me it is already used. That's impossible.

You can sent wrong e-mail address. Now u can send him/her right e-mail address. Told him/her 1st one is wrong u dont need registration code.

Not receiying e'mails


I've encountered friends unable to receive e-mails because of problems associated with their e-mail address. Also, this happens to friends who seldom use their e-mails to communicate. Or some who have already exceeded their allocated space for their mails.

You can therefore check if you have exceeded your space allocation, have an alternate e-mail address, or could just check if the one who sent you communication has typed the correct e-mail address.

Email cannot connect to your server. please give me current servers mine are onetel


You haven't given a description of your issue, but seem to have a some problem with email, and using onetel services. The following is from their site at http://support.onetel.co.uk/index.php?page=159. This should allow you to make sure your settings are appropriate.


Please find below the basic Onetel e-mail settings:

If your e-mail address ends in onetel.com:
  • Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.onetel.com Port: 110
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.onetel.com Port: 25
  • Username: the first part of your e-mail address (everything before the @ sign)
  • Password: the password you chose when you registered the e-mail address with Onetel

If your e-mail address ends in onetel.net:

  • Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.onetel.net Port: 110
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.onetel.net Port: 25
  • Username: your full e-mail address
  • Password: the password you chose when you registered the e-mail address with Onetel
Additionally, http://support.onetel.co.uk/index.php?page=170 contains various information depending on the email software you utilize on your equipment, and indicates specific instruction for setting up accounts on each.
