The touchscreen of my Z22 is broken

The Z22 is a bullet-proof device for securely saving your personal data, and full marks go to the team at PALM for its solid design. However, the AGE of the Z22, over the last decade, results in 3 problems - the batteries are all dying, and the delicate plastic touchscreen top layer is deteriorating - simply through AGE. When you say the touchscreen is "Broken", I would guess you mean that it does not respond to touch commands from the black plastic stylus that sits in the slot on the back, side, of the unit, when stored. I have never actually seen or heard of a screen that is physically "broken" - like the thousands of iPod, iPhone, Motorola RAZOR, and other touch screen phones that you see today, with cracks running across the broken GLASS. It "Could" happen that the glass screen under the top plastic touch layer is, actually "BROKEN", with the resulting cracks, but this is unlikely, since the trim around the screen is raised a HUGE distance, compared to today's touchscreens.
You can easily replace the screen for $9 if you wait for free shipping from CHINA, or, you can try a few tricks I learned on my Z22 over the years. I have put it in the freezer - which worked temporarily, heated it with a hair dryer - which worked temporarily, and peeled the top plastic layer off the screen- which worked temporarily. I have also replaced the screen with a new one. It is IMPERATIVE to put a hard plastic cover on the Z22 at all times- or you will eventually loose the screen again...

I hope this helps you to get your Z22 back up and running

I have a Palm IIIxe with a faded screen and it will not sync. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to repair this?

faded screens are always a bad sign
usually, it indicates light water damage on the motherboard.
other times, it's significant of a ruined lcd screen or both
Regretfully, water damage is almost impossible to repair
you could try putting the device in a bag of rice for two days and see if that fixes it. I highly doubt it will though

Palm Centrol - broken screen

You just need a new digitizer.

Good luck finding one though. Unless you want to order one from Hong Kong on ebay for $8. But I would not recommend that.

In ternal broken screen (TX Palm)

It's up to you whether you can live with the damaged screen or not. If you have a service plan, or the repair is cheaper than the replacement, get it fixed. Just my 2 cents. At some point you'll get fed up that you can't see something and you'll chuck the poor thing at a wall and break the rest of it...

Good luck.

PS - An impact that can damage the LCD may have damaged other internal components. It's worth having it looked at sooner rather than later.

Broken Screen

The black liquid means the display is damaged beyond repair. That's the liquid crystal (LC) in the display (LCD). Where you send it for repairs would depend on the manufacturer, the store you bought it from, and if you have a service plan or not, but it's not something you can do yourself unfortunately. Been there too :(

Here's the link to the repair information page on the Palm website:

700w lcd replacement now is black screen

Yes, most likely you have missed the proper technique of installing the ribbon strips correctly into the connection block.

I did the same thing and it took me three tries to get it right... I stumbled on this by playing with other ribbon strips on the phone that I could access better and found that there is some sort of “step” or “threshold” inside of the connection block that makes you feel like to have "seated" the ribbon strip at the bottom of the block when in fact you have to push harder to actually push the ribbon into the block fully and make contact with the connectors, and then snap the locking bar down.

It's an easy mistake to make since the connection block and ribbon strip for the screen are hard to get hold of with your fingers... try using some tweezers or small long nose pliers to hold the ribbon and seat it fully.

Now I still am trying to figure out how to unlock and install the touch screen ribbon into the connection block… it’s really small and does not seem to what to unlock to allow for a full installation of the really small ribbon strip and lock it in, so I used a piece of duct tape to hold it in place and it works fine… not my perfect fix on this one, but my ph works…

Broken Screen Life Drive

You can get a repair kit here:http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~Palm_LifeDrive-421~area~repairs-Parts+Only~item~PPC-TOOLKIT01.htm or just use the link to learn what tools you'll need. In parts alone it can reach 200$, you'll have to google for it. There's a chance that you only cracked the touch screen, and not the LCD, which changes the picture, and can cut the cost by more than half. I can attach below a picture of a cracked LCD, and another of a damaged touchscreen, so you can see the difference, just note that it's of an Ipaq, so might not be the same as yours. Good luck
