Sort of fixed it, as I had to then fiddle with the monitor settings as it was all distorted. I am sure there is an easier way, along the lines of ctrl Q etc.

My desktop is only showing a strip of the picture. Everything else is fine. What can I do to restore my full picture on the desktop?

I'm guessing ur talking about background picture. Am i right?
In that case, you have to set your background picture, in order to fit the desktop. You can do it using left click on ur bakground and select Personalize -> desktop background, where you can find options "Fit To screen", "Tile" or "Center". Select "Fit To screen", then press ok. this should do it.
If you are using Vista as operating system. Before Vista, it varies where you can find the setting windows.

Hello
This problem of your computer is not due to mouse, i believe your computer is responding slow due to some reasons:
1. Lot of application installed on it, do uninstall software you dont want. 2. Clean the temporary file from your computer 3. Check and Remove hard disk errors 4. Check and clean virus/spyware
You can get helps from this web site as well http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx

When I scroll up or down with the mouse wheel my web page reloads or moves forward or backward. I can't find any obvious settings in Control Panel>Mouse.

please go to he device manager and reinstall the mouse dirver

select my computer right click and select manger

in that window you have to select device manager in the left side of the window

after select device manager you got the all hardware components with your pc

then select the mouse and right ( If any hardware problems with that divice it show us with a yellow question mark )

If it is ok you have to check you internet browser options for any settings with the mouse
