Problems maintaining a connection on Netgear Next WNR834B - 2 Problems

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Netgear WNR834B wireless router connected to Verizon FIOS (this is not the router that they supplied me, but the one they did was a D-Link that had a range of about 15") and I have two problems with it. I have two computers in my office hardwired to it and another computer in another room connected wirelessly. The first problem is that I am losing my connection, but only on my desktop. I'll get the message that it can't load the page. It does this intermittently. Sometimes unplugging and re-plugging it in will fix this problem, but it is usually only temporary. To my knowledge, I have the exact same set-up on the two computers. Both are running Panda antivirus and firewall software. Windows firewall is disabled. The second problem is that the router will occasionally lose connection. The geeen "power" and "internet" lights go from green to orange and I have to unplug and re-plug it in to get these back to green status. This did not happen for probably the first month or two that it was installed. The power brick that came with it seems very warm when this happens and it seems that I have to let it cool before I can plug it back in and get it working again. It seems that the longer I unplug it and let it cool the longer it will stay working once I plug it back in. That having been said, my office has a skylight and gets rather warm at the hottest time of the day, however, the router going down doesn't seem to correspond to this timeframe. If I leave it plugged-in overnight, it will be at orange status in the morning. The Netgear folks haven't been much help...my router is out of warranty... Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

I have the same router and it will only maintain a connection for about 5 minutes and then loses it.

Maybe replace the power cord? if it's getting hot, that seems to be the culprit. Seeing how it's out of warentee, a new cord won't be free.

Check the settings in the router setup by going to your internet browser. Type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 whatever one works.

Type in Admin for the username and password for the password. This is the default username and password.

Change what MAC addresses the router accepts and any other settings that suit your need.

You can also go through a setup from this utility.

This router is not working

Try the reset button to put it back to factory default. If it's still not working, it's time for a new router.

Netgear wireless router WNR834B has died ... no power ... no connection. :-(

You need to return it if it is under warranty. If not you need to buy a new router. I suggest getting a Belkin.

Do a hard reset (20sec hold reset button, unplug for 20 sec still pressing the reset button and another 20 sec to turn on the power while holding the reset button). That should reset to defaults.
