Sounds like you may have had some fluid go from the screen to the buttons on the main board...like Windex or something, and is causing a short in the buttons. The only way to repair it is to have the main board removed and cleaned or have those buttons replaced.

Re:"shutdown after video comes up the green power light stays on but the set will not shut down while changing channels."

Hi.

I do not think this has anything to do with logic circuits and video processing. When you stay on one channel the horizontal and vertical alignment circuit works more than if you change channels all the time.
This is just a guess, but have a look at convergence ICs. when you keep changing channels the power amp ICs (or transistors) go on and off, if one of them is defective it will overheat and shut down.
Other possibility is an internal tuner failure. Also test using a DVS or VCR.

I lost the booklet with all the codes for my remote and i need the code to work my tv my tv is a symphonic

I suggest you try these steps..

1.Turn the television set on by pressing the "Power" button on the set.

2. Find the "Code Search" button on the Philips Magnavox remote. This button will be labeled or will be a different color than the other buttons on the remote (depending on which Philips Magnavox remote you own)

3. Hold the "Code Search" button down for about ten straight seconds. The light on the Philips Magnavox remote should then stay on.

4. Starting pressing either the "Up" or "Down" channel button on the Philips Magnavox remote. Continue pressing the same button until the television responds to the remote. It could take a few minutes for the channel to change so you'll need to have patience when searching for the remote code in this manner.

5. Press the power button on the Philips Magnavox remote once the channel has changes. If the device shuts off, press the power button again to turn the TV back on. If the TV turns on, the remote has been programmed correctly. Repeat the entire process if your remote is not programmed.

I hope this helps...

TV keeps shutting off and changing channels

hide all your remote controlls and put some tape over the front cover of the tv where you think the remote control reciever may be , if this fixes it then it means something is amiss with a rogue remote , most likely batterys..could even be sunlight ??

Try holding the volume up and channel down buttons on the set at the same time. Give me the model # if that doesn't work.

After programming my new universal remote, the tv keeps changing chanels! wont stop!

you need to program your remote control. take the battaries out. and maually turn the tv on. then hit the source you want to view. for example, I want to control the tv set. I push, code search and hold it then push the source button and then release the source button and then release the code search button. now, aim at the tv and then keep pressing power button till it goes off. when the tv is off, hit return or set or something like that.( every remote has different calling for it but still the same function) it should work. try it and let me know.

Shuts Off Immediately

Does the TV shut off if a signal from the scart is selected? Philips sets have an annoying habit of going into standby after a very short time if there is no video for the synchronising circuits to lock onto. I find this a nuisance when I am searching for a signal from satelites when you move the dish. By quickly changing channels you are resetting the shut down circuit. This must be a time-out circuit controlled by a capacitor charging (I suspect) which has gone low in value, probably electrolytic. Replacing the capacitor should solve the problem.
