I mixed the distributor cables up,so i need the order to correctly connect

If the wires are still in the distributer, AND, if you have a stock intake manifold, the firing order is on the manifold. If it's a V-8, the number 1, 3, 5, & 7 plugs are on the drivers side of the engine. The number 2, 4, 6, & 8 plugs are on the passenger side. The number 1 plug wire can be located by looking at the distributer from the front of the engine and visually looking between the distributer and the number 1 plug. Visualize the distributer as a clock. The number one position should be located between 4 and 5 o'clock and should have the longest wire of those on that side of the distributer.

If the wires have been pulled from the distributer, then, then, remove the rotor cap, turn the engine over slowly until the rotor is pointing to the number 1 plug. Using the firing order on the intake manifold, starting with number 1, replace the wires going clockwise around the distributer.

I need to know where number one is on the distributer cap for the firing order on a gmc 350 1989 truck

The postion of the #1 plugwire may not be the same as factory origional location, and that is not necessarily an issue....
Pull the # 1 spark plug, ground coil wire, put your finger over the plug hole and have a helper bump the starter over in short bursts.

When on the compression stroke, lots of air wants to rush out of the plug hole. This may take a few times before you get it, then look at the timing marks, to be sure you are close.... Then pull the distributer cap and the rotor will be pointing to the #1 plug wire position.

While idling, the engine sputters. check engine light on, reading misfire in cylinder four. Have replaced both coils, all wires, and all plugs. Still no help. I've come to a dead end. Anybody with ideas?.

Hi, this may be a dirty injector. Try putting some injector cleaner in the gas tank to see if that will clear it up. If not, you may need to pull up the fuel rail and check the injector flow pattern.

How do i know my spark plugs are firering in the

The best way would be to obtain a firing order diagram and go by that. You can probably look at the diagram somewhere online for nothing. Crossed wires are a pain to guess at.

Wire hookup to distributer cap.

Wires just pull out of the top of the cap. Do them one at a time and you won't have a problem putting them back.(they just push into each hole.)
