1. This error is related to the dialup modem
you will need to disable the dialup modem.
When setting up your router for the lan in the browser you will need to select "internet connect that is always on"
DNS should be on "automatically assign.
yes you can connect a switch to the router and the router will assign each port an IP address automatically.
If you are using the router wirelessly you will need to assign each device that is wireless via the MAC (Media Access Contro) number.
Check you router manual for details on how to set each device in the router by MAC address.
Basic instruction for multiple units set up in the router
Basic setup for multiple computer to go online:
1. power router off
2.connect all computers you want to connect.
3. start computers one at a time completely
4. check router for status light per computer to see if device is seen by router.
5. open web page to see if each computer is online.
7. Do ipconfig / release/renew if not connected.

I have dialup. i can't download or playback music

Check with your local ISP (Internet Subscription Provider) if they have a wireless modem/router so you can connect to the internet wirelessly.

They will be the one to configure your internet settings.

Happy surfing!!! ^_^

I have a second line for dial up and would like to switch over to dsl through my cable company to save some money can I drop my second line (dial up) and go to cable without any problems. I pay MSN direct...

DSL connection works on the same line provided by company who provides DSL. If dialup line is not provided by DSL company, you can drop dialup line and contact DSL company for DSL connection. If dialup line is provided by DSL company, migrate your internet plan from dialup to DSL by contacting DSL company.

Its not takin my intern et service

Are you using dialup, cable or DSL for internet? If you're using DSL you may need to enter a username/password into the router for the internet connection to work. You can get that information from your ISP. If it's cable it should automatically work (unless you have a static IP from your ISP, which you would not unless you specifically ordered one from them).

DSL-2640U connect to internet but want to setup second dialup connection from pc

Sounds like you have high speed internet and also want a dialup connection as well. Maybe as a backup.
Anyway, your pc will need have a dialup modem installed in it.
If you already have one installed then you will also need a dialup ISP account. Some times an ISP will provide dialup in addition to broadband. Ask you ISP or call AOL.

Connecting router to dial up

I don't believe that router is designed to be hooked directly into the phone line. That would be your problem. The process is much more complicated than simply plugging your phone line into the router instead of the laptop.

How d o I dial the Username and Password From this router.

Hello,

If you have a dialup internet connection the router can not directly help you, because the device that you are using for dialup (your PC) needs to first dial up your ISP using the telephone and then once connected it will use PPP to setup the IP Connection, at that point your within the PPP stack it will send your Password and Username. When that is all done you have connectivity. The router assumes that your connection by nature is either DHCP or PPPoE, not PPP or SLIP as with a dial up connection

What you need is a device that has dialup capibilities, and an internal PPP stack to allow for connectivity to the ISP while allowing for a connition to the router. This can be done by connecting one of your PCs (with Internet sharing enabled) to the internet via dialup and using a second ethernet connection to your router, then from the router you can connect your other PCs.

This method involves setting up two different subnets so here is a suggestion:

1) On the PC set the ethernet LAN facing connection to an IP Address of 192.168.10.100, netmask to 255.255.255.0, Gateway to 192.168.10.1 no DNS

2) On the router set the WAN IP Address to 192.168.10.1 and the DNS to the DNS provided by the ISP.

3) On the router facing the LAN (your network) set the IP Address to 192.168.1.1 and thell the router to act like a DHCP server.

This way you will be able to connect your PCs to the router and have it serve as a permanent connection to the PC which will still have to dial out but you can send a periodic ping sequence to keep the Internet connection up. and connfiguer auto-dial if the connection goes down.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Use a wired router for dial-up (NETZERO) connection..

You want to use a LAN with a router that uses a dial-up as a backbone internet connection for your LAN.
This is absolutely possible.

If you just want to share the connection that one computer has, and dont want to buy a router that has a built-in modem, try this

If you are running windows, There is a feature called Internet Connection Sharing (ICS.) It will share the dialup across the network.

Just 1 hookup the router and all the pcs to it. 2 Dialup the machine with the modem. 3 Enable ICS on that machine. 4 Youre LAN is online.

In XP, goto the network connections, and while you have 2 active connections in there (the dialup and the LAN port connected to the router), right click the dialup, goto properties. goto advanced tab, and click on enable ICS.
The other computers should be served IP's automatically and NAT'd out to the internet by the computer running ICS.

(The other computers should be automatically setup to the internet like they should be and connected to the dialup riunning on the ICS (host) computer)
