JVC AV-48WP30 Convergence Problem

I have a similar problem to the ones I'v seen posted on your site except in my case the green picture is quite "askew". I was able to successfully move the red and blue targets using the convergence set-up feature on my remote and align them. However the green targets were quite distant from the red and blue and very skewed on the screen. I have read about replacing the STK chips, but will this really fix my problem? I am thinking that perhaps the entire DCM needs to be replaced. I have found some priced at about $250. What do you think is the best action to take?

I'm comfortable using a soldering iron. Which resistors need to be replaced (name and value), and where do I find these to buy?

  • farbo Jul 25, 2008

I replaced the STK's but the problem is still there. Where can I purchase the necessary resistors and what kind (value) are they?

If you know how to solder, I would suggest to just replace the STK ICs and some of the low value resistors. If you do not how to solder replacing the entire board is the way to to get the TV fix. You might still need to adjust the convergence after the board replacement.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

You can buy the parts from this website along with the resistors. You can use the STK392-150 instead of the STK392-110, since the STK392-150 can handle more current.

Make sure that you apply thermal compound to the ICs before installation to ease the heat transfer to the heatsink.

The location of the resistors are R842, R846, R862, R850 and R854. Use a ohmmeter to check their values less than 2 ohms.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Have you measure the low value resistors?

The picture below will show you the resistor location as well their value. Check any resistor that is below 3 ohms as well the 150 ohms.

The old video card has seen better days, methinks. All those symptoms lead one to conclude it needs a 'substitute' to enter the field, or call a long TV time out(too much pro and super bowl isms, eh?)..

Are you planning on doing this yourself?

Your convergence IC's are bad. If your not doing the work it will probably cost in the neighbor hood of $250.00 for a service company to do. Not a major repair.

Check convergence adjust screen after picture distorts.

Description sounds like shading from a defective convergence circuit. If you replaced STK392-110 with 150, then re-install new 110's, or new 150's and re-design the circuit and change low-ohm resistor values to compensate for different IC's. It is not the same as a brighter light bulb.

Jvc av-48wp30 convergence problem

1. if the 1.5 ohm resistor was open, then you may have fried your new convergence ic's. Sorry
2. bettween a 1.5 - 1.9 ohm resistor will work
3. press sleep button, set to 30
hold down video status button and press display on remote
select convergence from the new menu and hit OK.
Do fix the convergence before you try to align the convergence or it will look horrible after you get the circuit fixed and will be harder to align.

The white button is there because the DCU (digital convergence unit) can be erased by holding that button and turning the set on.
I WOULD NOT RECOMEND THAT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this Helps.

The convergence circuit needs repaired. I did the same job yesterday on this model. I not only replaced the convergence ICs, but, I had to replace a couple of resistors and a coil. The convergence alignment was minor after that.
