I'm also looking for that specific power adaptor. Does yours start blinking as soon as you connect it to the monitor and wont power it up? Let me know if you find it.

I think we're out of luck for the monitor. Formac is gone. Asian Power Devices is gone as well. There are no compatible power supplies out there. Time for a REAL Apple Cinema Dispaly and not these knock-offs.

Try hooking it up to another PC first, but more likely to have failure in the power supply caps or failed inverter cicuits.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My formac dvi monitor wont work as a 2nd monitor for my laptop

Try a monitor that has a vga output only, sometimes these laptops can't recognize the difference when there is a converter involved. It doesn't see the signal properly.

Try that and if a regular monitor works with vga then you know that monitor may not be compatible with that laptop because of the converter. You could also try another converter as well to see if that fixes the problem.

Hi, Bought a formac mini disc , ( no external power source ) picks up power via eBay port ( green light on formac mini disc shows lit ) Refuses to register on my computer. Help, thanks, Peter

Peter, on the premise this is new to you and you didn't buy it with stuff you want to keep ...

It may not be mounting/showing up because it's not formatted -- the computer may be seeing it, but it's not capable of reading it, or there's a problem.

This runs off USB, not eBay, ports -- and, as you say, does not need an external power supply.

If you're on Windows XP or Windows Vista, you'll typically want to reformat to "NTFS" ... the default specifications, if you're given an option, will work fine.

Gallery 1740 Trips out my G5

Right I got my formac monitor open by removing the Bezel, it's tricky but not too hard. The casing is suprisingly flexible and forgiving. The clips are backed by a double sided tape on all four edges. Start from the top and give the tape time under tension to come unstuck, it will, a bit like a plaster.
Oh yes, unplug before continuing.
Inside there are four HEX #4 (5/64 inch) screws holding the display inside the chassis. These can be removed, on the back side of the panel is the power/controller board. And remaining in the chassis is the Cold Cathode power board (long thin one on one side). This can be unplugged to get more range on the cables. (remember which way it goes in, I use a marker pen over the plug and socket to show me where to put it back) The Controller board has a number of power components. Firstly there are 5 power diodes, they all seem to respond properly under a meter in my screen. There remains one linear voltage regulator LT1117 and two 500Khz Step down switch mode regulators, LT1374. These devices are most suspect for causing the over current draw. Replace them if you can do this with ease. However most regulators have inbuilt protection. So it is also possible that a support component such as a resistor or capacitor has failed causing the other components to operate outside of their intended parameters. I will post some pics of the board later.
