Bosch Fridge Freezer KGV2604G (9 years old) , compressor does not kick when Fridge warms up. Fridge has to be turned off, left for a while, then truned on before the compressor starts to work and cool the fridge to the required temperature.

We just started to notice problems with the same model (almost exact same age as well). I had to max-out the fridge to get it to start again; but I will try you on/off approach.

Have you checked for any gas leakage? Pull the unit out and look around the back for signs of frost. That's a leak. Rub some liquid soap around the joints near the compressor and see if there is any bubbling, that also shows a leak. Although I doubt a leak is your problem - it sounds more like the thermostat or something.

9 years should not be a death warrant. I believe your defrost relay (bottom front area under grill) has gotten stuck on. It's a small black box about 3x4inches with a timer motor built in it. When it is ON the heater in the freezer coils turns on and defrosts. When it turns back OFF the compressor is allowed to come back on.

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Fridge/Freezer cools intermittently

It could be the thermostat. When you catch it in a cycle where it's warming up, gently tap the dial with the handle of a screw driver. If it starts chances are it's bad. If you know electricty you can jump the two terminals on the thermostat to do this test.

FREEZER WORKING - FRIDGE NOT WORKING

Ok, got it sussed! [well here's what I did anyway]...

Quite simply, I turned off the fridge-freezer at the mains overnight and in the morning, broke and chucked out the ice chunks that had lined up in the bottom of the freezer section and then turned it back on. I returned that night to see that it was working fine again! Hallelujah, I got my fridge back!!

So it seems that all it needed was a good long defrost, so far so good! I hope this solves your problem.
