Battery keeps dying got alternater fixed three times

  • richlwhite Nov 08, 2008

The battery keeps going flat in very short periods of time - even 30 minutes - when listening to the radio. Last night I came back - car had been parked in station car park all day - completely flat battery

Do you hear a humming noise when the car is off? I had a similar problem with a new battery. I find the ABS module passenger side against firewall went out and was constantly running trying hold pressure. After learning this part is really expensive, I decided to unplug the fuse (box near battery) and cut the link for the ABS them install the fuse.

Been 2 years and never had that problem again.

My battery keeps dieing while running. just changed the alternater three weeks ago.

Hi.

Make sure that you also replaced the battery. Battery elements may be shorted inside. That will result in battery draining even if the alternator is working.

If you have already replaced the battery check power across battery terminals with engine on and revving above idle. You should read voltage in a range of 13.5/14.4 volts when engine is revving at about 2K rpm.

If the voltage is still wrong after replacing alternator and battery check the voltage regulator connected to the alternator. Here the part.

If battery, alternator and power regulator are OK, test wiring to find out if there is a short to ground that is draining the battery while you drive. This fault is quite unusual with your symptoms. Check battery, alternator and voltage regulator first.

Regards.

wow if your battery is that old i would get a different one but you can have the battery and alternator tested for free at a auto parts store they can tell you if its junk or not but thats why your having them problems when your alternater spins it charges the battery if the battery is no good it wont hold a charge and you car will die now it the alternater is bad it will not keep the battery charged and your car will die.

I have new alternater and baterry and it keeps dying????

there is an electric leak(short cercuit) in the cables or some thing is onn even when the car is switched off try this

remove one of the wire terminals from the battery and then touch it with the battery terminal several times (keep the car ignition switch off) if the terminal sparks while rubbing or touching it means some device in the car remains onn while the ignition is off and it drains the battery

Bolts broke of alternator causing it to fall and that made the serpintine belt jump off, after that was fix the car would not stop so I got a new battery it ran for a day that night the car died again and...

sounds like your alternater is not fixed. Your car ran off of battery power till you drained it. Complete alternater repair and charge battery. You can check if your alternater works by starting car and disconnect positive cable if it stays running your alternate is fixed. Shut car off and replace positive cable.

Alternater trouble Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2003

I have had the exact problem. I've changed altenator 3 times also and it has the same leak, but I've changed altenator an batterys over 2 year span. It just happend to me today after not driving it for 5 months. It's been in storage while I was away. Drive it fine for 2 days but today the radio kept shutting off and finally the car died right in the middle of the road. Bought a new battery because I had a warranty on last battery, but bought it just to get it home and in the driveway. Did you ever find out what was wrong with it?

2001 ford expendition

it can be either a plugged fuel filter or the fuel pump is going out but before you fix either one of these; when was the last time it had a tune up? and I mean fuel filter, drive belt, spark plugs changed. (there is no spark plug wires)
battery is dying due to belt is slipping so the alternater is not charging completely. if you have keyless enter these also drain the battery on some models (on my 2000 expedition the keypad on the driver door had a broken wire and that was draining the battery)
