Question about Olympus Cameras

2 Answers

I have an Olympus e-400 SLR Camera. When I view the images on the Camera screen, they seem to be perfect. When transferred from the camera to the computer, once on the computer screen they seem to be a bit darker, in 35mm terms, they look about at least half a stop under exposed. Al pictures are that bit darker on the computer screen, especially those taken not in sunshine. Can any one Help, Please?

do not get this problem with my Nikon Fine Pix, nor does my wife with her Nikon SLR. I have tried transferrring images to another computer and get the same problem. I think the fault is in the camera itself.B Mills

This can be normal, it depends on your computer screen. You can adjust pictures on computer using a software like photoshop or similar.

    Download Adobe Photoshop
and try to adjust brightness, if it is the camera there is no much you can do unless it is under guaranty.
    Ensure lens are not dirty.

I mean if it is the camera is either the board or the sensor, it will be an expensive repair that must be done at a repair shop.
If the problem is not too bad you can still use camera as spare and correct pictures at computer.

EOS utility not tranfering all images on card

You are better off to simply remove the card and either use your built in card reader or obtain a external USB card reader and transfer your images that way. All you have to do is open 2 "My Computer" windows. Simply drag your photos from your card to your C: drive.

My rebel canon camera doesn't show up on screen when taking pictures only after I take them

I presume you're asking about a Digital Rebel and not a 35mm film Rebel (as per the question heading).

If so, that's probably normal. It's only relatively recent dSLR models which have a "live preview" facility (often wrongly called "live view"). The whole point of an SLR is that the viewfinder is the main compositional viewing tool; the LCD is there solely to display and adjust camera functions and to review images already captured.

Most current and recent SLR's now have live preview, and all true SLR's are incapable of viewing the image at the actual moment of image capture as the viewfinder mirror must flip up out of the way of the image sensor.

If you want live preview then you must change your camera. if you tend not to use the viewfinder anyway then consider mirrorless Compact System Cameras such as the Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds models as they do have a true live view capability and the LCD is the main (or only) tool for composing images. Panasonic also have their regular Four Thirds G range, which look like an SLR but have an electronic viewfinder and they are also capable of true live view.

White spots on images

Does the camer have a removable lens. Is it an SLR camera. If so, there probably is microscopic dust on your sensor, or you have some dead pixels on your sensor. If you can get to the sensor, you can easily clean it with a cleaning kit. The most effective way of cleaning is to blow it off with clean air. Be gentle. On an SLR it is necessary to lock the mirror up. Your instruction book will explain how to do that. For more suggestions, Google cleaning my camera sensor and you will get a lot of suggestions. :-)

I have an e500. The viewer will not come on for taking pics.

Unfortunately with the EVOLT E-500 it does not have the capability for a live view LCD screen. You must shoot images using the viewfinder only. The newer Olympus SLR cameras now have both viewfinder and live view LCD.

I have a Blank LCD screen and everything else seems to function fine

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $139.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Write protect message appears on screen

Sounds as if the memory card may be corrupted. In order to remove the write protect, make sure you have downloaded and saved all of the images from the memory card to your computer and then having the card in the camera you will need to run the format option and this will permanently remove the write protect as well as all of the images from the card.
The card should be able to be used again after the write protect is removed.

No picture on my LCD

When in the taking mode- this SLR will not show an image as other cameras- because the mirror is down for the reflex view finder- this is normal for this type of camera although I understand there is a make/model that gets around this - but it is not the E-v 500 just like my E-v 300
