It depends on what radio if you have a cobra 18wx style or maxon's, or a radioshack type the red is constant power 12v, orange is a switched 12v.. IE key like a stereo, and black is ground. if you have a 25 or 29 ltd types or exports they only have 2 wires red 12v and black ground. but you do find some power cords that have all three, and the orange on the 25 / exports are not used.

How do I hook up wires on capacitor start capacitor run Magnetek 5HP 208/230v motor without a diagram?

Don,
Do you have the model number of that motor. Don't do anything till you get the information because that would be a catastrophe if you get it wrong

Connecting a new stereo with red for AC power, black for ground, Yellow for battery fuse wire. The car stereo wiring has orange, black, yellow but no red wire. it has 3 others as well

Orange is your steady power source and Yellow is your switched power source so your new stereo would connect Red to Yellow and Yellow to Orange in most cases but it is best to use a test light to check before making connections.

Your truck may have had the factory trailer tow package, but that did not come with a wiring connector in that year. There should be a wire harness under the rear of the truck near the center of the bumper with 7 wires of the following colors/characteristics -

Red/Orange - +12V Battery (Thick Wire) From fuse #8 (40A)
Black/Orange - Tail Markers (Thick Wire)
Light Blue - Trailer Brakes (Thick Wire)
Violet/Black - Backup Lights (Thin Wire)
Dark Green/Red - Left Stop/Turn - (Thin Wire)
Brown/Red - Right Stop/Turn - (Thin Wire)
Black - Ground - (Thick Wire)

Under the dash, the brake controller wiring should be -

Red/Orange - +12V Battery (Thick Wire) From fuse #8 (40A)
Black/Orange - Ground - (Thick Wire)
Light Blue - Trailer Brakes (Thick Wire)
White/Tan - Brake Light sense - (Thin Wire)

Hope this helps.

I need to know how to wire a led scanner to an avital 5303. The light has a red pos, black neg, and yellow that says brake. i want it to come on when the alarm is activated

Forget the yellow wire. Its for wiring WITHOUT an alarm. Connect the red to a fused 12 volt and the black to the orange "ground when armed" of the Avital 5303.

My back up lights burt out and wanted 2 know what runs off the same harnest or fuse for that I have a short

Hello! The back up light circuit is stand alone...Power is fed via the back up light switch to both the left and right lamp on a Red/White wire...Ground is fed by a White/Black wire...The back up light switch receives power from a 10 a fuse ( Gauge Fuse) on a Black/Orange wire... So, 12 volts from the gauge fuse on Black/Orange...through the switch on a Red/White to both back up lights...Ground to lights via a White/Black...Using an ohm meter with power off...Set on X10 scale...check the Red/White to ground...It must read open...if you read any resistance on that wire it will blow the fuse...Guru...saailer

Wiring

From your owner's manual (Page 3):
http://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/18WXSTII_MANL1.pdf

The RED wire goes to the fuse panel (+12V)

The ORANGE wire goes to the battery for memory
(I STRONGLY suggest an inline fuse here of 2A)

The BLACK wire is vehicle ground.

Hope this helps you out.
Good Luck!

Usually red is for switched power and orange is constant power.
Orange will go directly to 12V constant supply. This retains memory.
Red will go to switched (ignition) 12Vsupply. this turns it on and off with the car.
Black is ground.
